PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ralph Wiggum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ralph Wiggum!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Man scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
A lull in the action here.
Man tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Wiggum is looking for a sweep.
Wiggum manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Wiggum lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Man is doing well to control the position and prevent Wiggum from advancing to side control.

Wiggum is working for a submission of some sort.
Man is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wiggum's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wiggum's back!

Man gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.

Man working for a choke but Wiggum is defending well.

Wiggum defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Man's arms.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Man throwing wild punches that miss their target.
Man will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Wiggum trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Wiggum has eaten all the pies!
Man is trying to stick to Wiggum's back but Wiggum is turning into Man. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Man's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Wiggum.
Wiggum throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Man lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Wiggum!
Wiggum tries to hold on but Man postures up.
Wiggum is trying desperately to improve position.
Man tries to control but Wiggum wriggling away.
Wiggum tries to hold on but Man postures up.
Wiggum is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Man punishing his opponent with strikes.
Wiggum is wriggling around trying to escape.
Wiggum tries to hold on but Man postures up.
Man is breathing heavily.
Wiggum throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Man controlling the position easily from mount.
Man prevents Wiggum from getting the reversal.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Man thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Wiggum can't escape the position.
Man thowing shots but they're missing.
Man thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Man avoids the attempt from Wiggum to control.
Wiggum regains half guard.
Still in half guard, Man seems content to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Man dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Man looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Wiggum!
Wiggum tries to reverse the position but Man maintains control.

Man looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Wiggum wants to control but Man is having none of it.
Wiggum is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Wiggum tries to hold on but Man pushes him away.
Wiggum is trying to escape the mount.
Wiggum is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Man avoids the attempt from Wiggum to control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wiggum is wriggling around trying to escape.

Man swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Wiggum is now in Man's guard. A big mistake from Man there, giving up the dominant position!

Wiggum controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Man looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Man manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Man breaks from Wiggum's wrist control and lands an elbow.


Wiggum is rocked!


It looks like Ralph Wiggum has been cut.

Man is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Wiggum is surviving well by controlling Man's body position as best he can.

Man jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Wiggum is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Wiggum and Man has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Wiggum is looking to reverse the position.

Man has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wiggum throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Wiggum doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Man moves into the clinch.
Man prevents a takedown attempt there.

Joe Man has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ralph Wiggum.

Man has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Wiggum is trying to keep an underhook but Man manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Man is working for a submission of some sort.
Wiggum is trying to get back to full guard.
Wiggum regains full guard. Nicely done.

Man trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Man thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Wiggum pulls Man in close to prevent any damage.
Man forces his way into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Man in particular looking to stall.
Man has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Man avoids the attempt from Wiggum to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Man dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Ralph Wiggum's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Man fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wiggum sprawls well initially but Man persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Man wants to pass to mount but Wiggum is defending the position.
Man thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wiggum's head.
Wiggum wants to improve his position but Man is controlling well.
Man trying to control from half guard but Wiggum is working away.
Wiggum is looking to improve his position.
Wiggum wants to control but Man is keeping busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Man digs a good body shot into Wiggum's ribs.
Wiggum has his takedown stuffed
and Man counters with a nice body kick.
Wiggum takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Wiggum tries to keep at a distance but Man has taken the fight into the clinch.

Man jumps guard and drags Wiggum to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Man bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wiggum's guard.

Man slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Wiggum is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Man off and has taken his back!
Wiggum lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Well, with Wiggum on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Man is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
I really don't envy Man right now.
Wiggum doesn't have the hooks in and Man manages to turn into his guard.

and Man counters with a shoot takedown. Wiggum fights it but they end up in guard.
Joe Man overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Man wants to pass the guard but Wiggum is keeping the position.
Man slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Man shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Man has gone for a leg lock! Wiggum slips out almost immediately though and dives into Man's guard.
Man has his hands on Wiggum's head, controlling the position.

Man has his feet on Wiggum's thighs here. He's pushed Wiggum off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Wiggum screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joe Man!
