PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Niklas Eralesson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eralesson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Iron Maiden - The Wicker Man. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Dog!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Columbo Gatti and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dog tries to keep at a distance but Eralesson has taken the fight into the clinch.

Eralesson pulls guard.
Dog must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Eralesson pulls Dog in close to prevent any damage.
Dog won't allow Eralesson to sweep him here.
Eralesson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Dog tries to kick Eralesson off but Eralesson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Eralesson stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Dog to get to his feet.

Dog tries to pull guard but Eralesson won't allow it.

Eralesson tightens his grip and picks Dog up, before dumping him to the ground. Dog manages to land in guard.

Eralesson passes Dog's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Eralesson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dog does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Eralesson wants to work for an arm triangle but Dog is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Dog tries to get to full guard but Eralesson has control of the leg.

Dog has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Eralesson is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dog is trying to drag Eralesson to the mat but Eralesson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Dog tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Eralesson smiles and moves away.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dog is defended easily by Eralesson.
Dog tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Dog shoots in looking for a takedown. Eralesson tries to sprawl out of it but Dog keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Eralesson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Eralesson slaps away a takedown attempt from Dog, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Eralesson checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Eralesson trying to control the position from guard on top but Dog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dog is trying to keep Eralesson in close.
Eralesson advances position into side control!
Eralesson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Dog defending against the ground and pound.
Eralesson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Eralesson wants to control but Dog is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Dog shoots in but Eralesson avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Eralesson shoots in and bounces Dog off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Dog has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Eralesson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dog throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Eralesson's waist but Eralesson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dog off to one side.

Eralesson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dog keeps working.

Eralesson scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Dog wants to get back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Eralesson is looking to advance position but Dog won't allow it.
Dog is looking to control Eralesson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dog avoid being mounted?
Dog really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Eralesson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Eralesson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dog looks like he's trying to stand up.
Eralesson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Dog!
Eralesson lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Dog hang on?
Eralesson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Dog can't escape the position.
Eralesson misses with a head shot.
Dog keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Eralesson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Dog misses with a takedown

and Eralesson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Eralesson.
Eralesson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dog's guard.

Dog tries to reverse the position but Eralesson maintains control.

Eralesson is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Dog has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Dog!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Eralesson shoots in for a double leg but Dog sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Eralesson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Eralesson prevents Dog from breaking the clinch.
Dan Dog has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Eralesson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
