PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Fitzgerald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexei Kropotkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kropotkin is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Boy prodolzhaetsya by Ariya. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fitzgerald closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
You can see the frustration on Kropotkin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Fitzgerald wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kropotkin keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fitzgerald wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kropotkin, who protects the arm well.

Fitzgerald tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fitzgerald has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Fitzgerald is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kropotkin can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Fitzgerald has hold of Kropotkin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kropotkin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Kropotkin throws a right hand that Fitzgerald ducks under and follows up with a left that Fitzgerald also avoids with ease.

Kropotkin wants to get back to striking at distance but Fitzgerald won't allow it.

Fitzgerald tries for a takedown but Kropotkin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Kropotkin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Fitzgerald circles away quickly and effectively.

Fitzgerald closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Kropotkin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fitzgerald is working away from the top position though.

Alexei Kropotkin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Kropotkin throws a front kick aimed at Fitzgerald's knee but Fitzgerald avoids it well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

A punch lands to the side of Fitzgerald 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Kropotkin goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Fitzgerald tries for a takedown but Kropotkin manages to get underhooks.

Kropotkin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kropotkin lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Fitzgerald avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kropotkin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kropotkin is pressed up against the cage. Fitzgerald has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kropotkin down to the mat. Kropotkin avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

A head kick from Kropotkin lands but Fitzgerald takes it in his stride.
Fitzgerald throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Kropotkin connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Kropotkin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Fitzgerald to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fitzgerald wants to control from the top but Kropotkin keeps moving.

Fitzgerald postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kropotkin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Fitzgerald, into his guard.
Fitzgerald is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kropotkin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fitzgerald. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

I think Kropotkin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
