The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gill looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

de Ruyter shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. de Ruyter showed some decent athleticism there.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Gill regains full guard. Nicely done.
Gill is trying to keep de Ruyter in close.
de Ruyter thows a big elbow that misses.
de Ruyter is looking to work some ground and pound but Gill has wrist control.
Gill manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

de Ruyter defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gill.
de Ruyter sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

de Ruyter wants to sweep here but Gill controlling him for the moment.
Gill sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed de Ruyter's guard.
Gill passes to full mount!

Gill is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but de Ruyter is surviving well by controlling Gill's body position as best he can.
Gill is breathing heavily.

de Ruyter swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
de Ruyter working to try and regain half guard.
de Ruyter is mounted and he's throwing punches. Is that wise?
Gill has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of de Ruyter's face.
de Ruyter tries to hold on but Gill postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

de Ruyter tries to improve his position but Gill has taken his back! Gill has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will de Ruyter tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Gill pushes de Ruyter away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
