Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Vasa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Angle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Vasa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kurt Angle!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Angle shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Vasa pinned against the cage. Vasa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Angle shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Angle content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Vasa looks like he's trying to stand up.
Angle perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Angle is looking to advance position but Vasa won't allow it.
Angle controlling the action here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Angle trying to mount his opponent but Vasa defends it.
Angle content to control rather than advance.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Angle's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Angle is looking to pass Vasa's guard but actually Vasa recovers to full guard.

Angle pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vasa is keeping the position for now.

Vasa is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Angle is aware though and is defending well.
Angle works a leg free and moves into half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Angle is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Despite being in the dominant position, Kurt Angle just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Vasa shoots in and bounces Angle off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Angle holds on and takes a little breather.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kurt Angle dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Angle forces Vasa back against the cage and clinches.
Vasa misses with a punch to the body.
Vasa is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Angle pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Angle wants a takedown.

Vasa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Vasa takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Angle drives through with a takedown into guard.
Vasa being controlled here, momentarily.
Angle wants to pass the guard but Vasa is keeping the position.

Angle seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Angle is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Angle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vasa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Angle slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Kurt Angle just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Angle tries for a takedown but Vasa circles away easily

and Vasa counters with a shoot takedown. Angle fights it but they end up in guard.
Angle wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Vasa wants to get up but he can't break Angle's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Angle is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Kurt Angle has got the better of the ground game so far.

Angle is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Vasa postures up.

Angle looking for a guillotine here but Vasa defends easily.
Angle is breathing heavily.
Vasa has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Angle is proving hard to escape from.

Kurt Angle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Angle tries to clinch but Vasa moves away

and Vasa counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Angle is pressing down on Vasa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Angle looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Vasa wants to stand but Angle has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Angle not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Angle is pulling down on Vasa's head. It's preventing any offense from Vasa, at least for the moment.

Vasa stands up and waves to Angle to follow him.

Angle gets a clinch.
Angle drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Angle has Vasa pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Angle pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Vasa tumbling to the mat - Angle dives into Vasa's guard.
Angle looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Vasa is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Angle wants to control from the top but Vasa keeps moving.

Despite being in the dominant position, Kurt Angle just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vasa uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Angle.
Kurt Angle is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Angle pushes Vasa up against the cage in a clinch.
Vasa doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Angle has Vasa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Vasa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Angle is looking to break free of the clinch but Vasa has double underhooks.
Vasa tries to pull guard but Angle won't allow it.

Angle controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Vasa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Angle gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Angle passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Vasa is trying to escape the position but Angle is controlling the position.
Vasa manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Vasa seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Angle has recovered full guard.
Nick Vasa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Angle looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nick Vasa.
Well Angle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
