The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Werdum shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Werdum fails to land the takedown.
De Souza stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and De Souza wants it to stay on the feet.
Werdum takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

De Souza throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Werdum stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
De Souza fails with a takedown attempt.
De Souza fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
De Souza lands a nice hook to Werdum's body. Werdum takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Werdum shoots in for a takedown but De Souza shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fabricio Werdum. That's going to take a lot out of him.

De Souza drops back looking for a leg! Werdum is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Werdum manages to kick De Souza off! De Souza jumps back into Werdum's guard.
De Souza wants to get up but he can't break Werdum's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Werdum manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. De Souza manages to get himself to full guard.
Werdum has gone for a leg lock! De Souza slips out almost immediately though and dives into Werdum's guard.
De Souza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Werdum swivels though and keeps the full guard.
De Souza thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
