Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kari Koijaaja! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ivan Ivanovich! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Kenichi Hosakawa and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Koijaaja tries to clinch up. Ivanovich tries to close the distance and clinch but Koijaaja swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Koijaaja fails miserably with a takedown attempt. The fight moves into the clinch position. Ivanovich's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Ivanovich dives in and grabs Koijaaja's left leg, looking for a takedown. Koijaaja pushes down on Ivanovich's head and hops out. Ivanovich wants to clinch and Koijaaja counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Ivanovich effectively controlling the action here. Koijaaja wants to stall.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ivanovich throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ivanovich keeping moving, preventing Koijaaja from controlling successfully. Ivanovich is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Ivanovich wants to stand up but Koijaaja has a hold of him and won't allow it. Koijaaja keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Lucky escape for Ivanovich because Koijaaja loaded up on that one. Koijaaja controlling from the full mount. Ivanovich is in all sorts of trouble here.
Koijaaja knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ivanovich on the ground. Koijaaja lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Ivanovich hang on? Ivanovich is looking to get to half guard. Ivanovich regains half guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Ivanovich tries to kick Koijaaja off but Koijaaja keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Koijaaja seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Koijaaja doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Koijaaja manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Ivanovich wants to stand and escape but Koijaaja is having none of it. Ivanovich is trying to control the position but Koijaaja postures up. Koijaaja wants to control from the top but Ivanovich keeps moving. Koijaaja avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Koijaaja closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ivanovich to the mat! Ivanovich manages to get full guard. Koijaaja prevents Ivanovich from getting back to his feet. That was a close second round but I would say that Kari Koijaaja will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Ivanovich wants to finish this one by submission but Koijaaja is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ivanovich. Ivanovich throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Koijaaja is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kari Koijaaja. Well Koijaaja has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
