PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ndemi Abasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rasheed Tyree (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ndemi Abasi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rasheed Tyree!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jonathan Paton and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abasi tries to close the distance and clinch but Tyree swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tyree circles away from the clinch attempt.
Tyree avoids the head kick by Abasi.
Abasi wants to clinch up but Tyree keeps it at a distance.

Tyree closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Tyree lands in his opponent's guard.
Tyree is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Abasi is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Abasi preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Tyree stays in close to Abasi's body and controls the position.
Tyree throws a big right hand that misses.

Abasi utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Tyree throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Tyree drops back looking for a leg! Abasi is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Abasi manages to kick Tyree off! Tyree jumps back into Abasi's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Tyree bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Tyree trying to control the action but Abasi is working from the bottom.
Abasi tries to bench press Tyree off him but Tyree keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Abasi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tyree on the ground.

Sloppy strikes there by Tyree.
Abasi can't do much from the bottom here.
Abasi sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Still in half guard, Tyree seems content to control.
Tyree prevents Abasi from standing back up.
Tyree is thwarting Abasi's attempts to control the position.
Tyree is looking to advance position but Abasi won't allow it.

Tyree thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Abasi's head.

Tyree is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Abasi sees it coming and defends easily.
Tyree moves into full mount! Abasi won't be happy about that!

Tyree takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Tyree tries to control but Abasi wriggling away.
Tyree looks gassed!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Tyree won't let Abasi get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Tyree moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Abasi has worked his arm free - good work by Abasi!
Tyree throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Abasi is looking to regain half guard here but Tyree keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Abasi is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Tyree has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Tyree in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rasheed Tyree dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Abasi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Abasi tries to clinch but Tyree moves out of range.
Abasi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tyree swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ndemi Abasi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Abasi is looking to clinch but Tyree is avoiding it.

Tyree closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Tyree is trying to break free.
Abasi using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Abasi with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Tyree tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Abasi just stands there and leans against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Abasi's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Abasi wants to break free but Tyree has control.

Tyree tries to pull guard but Abasi holds him up against the cage and eventually Tyree drops back down to his feet.
Tyree drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Abasi gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Ndemi Abasi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rasheed Tyree.
Abasi trying to control the position but instead, Tyree has worked for underhooks and has pushed Abasi into the cage.
Tyree is breathing heavily.

Abasi scores with a knee to the head.
Abasi pushes off an throws an elbow but Tyree leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Tyree swats away the attempt to clinch by Abasi.
Abasi pushes Tyree away with a front kick.
Abasi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tyree paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Tyree counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Tyree seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Abasi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Abasi wants to get back to full guard.
Tyree sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Abasi defending well though.
Abasi wants to control but Tyree is keeping busy.
Abasi is refusing to be controlled, as Tyree sits in half guard.
Abasi tries to kick Tyree off but Tyree keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Abasi throws a nice inside leg kick.
Tyree tries for a takedown but Abasi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Abasi pushes Tyree up against the cage in a clinch.
Tyree blocks an uppercut.
Abasi scores a nice knee to the body.
Abasi stalls.
Tyree takes a knee right on the jaw!
Abasi trying to control the position but instead, Tyree has worked for underhooks and has pushed Abasi into the cage.
Abasi can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.

Tyree manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Tyree keeping moving, preventing Abasi from controlling successfully.

Tyree looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Abasi goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Tyree throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Tyree swats away the attempt to clinch by Abasi.
Abasi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Tyree counters with a shoot takedown. Abasi fights it but they end up in guard.

and Tyree counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Abasi is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Abasi lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Abasi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Tyree looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Abasi!
You get the feeling that Abasi really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Abasi is desperately trying to improve his position but Tyree has a good base and remains in mount.
Rasheed Tyree has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tyree trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Abasi is looking to improve his position but Tyree isn't that keen on the idea.
Tyree wants to control the pace but Abasi is squirming around nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rasheed Tyree comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tyree has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
