Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between CJ Fertit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Paiva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fertit kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Paint It Black. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, CJ Fertit! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Paiva! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fertit scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Fertit working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Paiva is not content to let Fertit control the position. Paiva is pushing Fertit's head away, looking to escape. Fertit manages to hold on to the position though. Fertit wants to control but Paiva is keeping him busy. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Paiva can do anything to dispel that myth. Fertit tries to advance to mount but Paiva instead regains half guard. Fertit looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fertit thows a huge punch but Paiva dodges it nicely.
Paiva wants to get back to his feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Paiva stuffs the takedown attempt from Fertit. Fertit gets slowly back to his feet. Fertit fails with the takedown. Fertit looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for CJ Fertit. That's going to take a lot out of him. Paiva misses with a kick to the body.
CJ Fertit seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fertit gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Paiva.
It looks like CJ Fertit has been cut. Fertit blocks a head kick by Paiva.
Paiva tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Paiva connects with a good right hand that stumbles Fertit. Fertit circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Fertit feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fertit trying to control but Paiva is working from the bottom. Fertit is stalling in the full guard. Paiva wants to get back to his feet but Fertit is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Fertit stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Paiva swivels though and keeps the full guard. Fertit is working hard here to advance position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fertit in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Fertit thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. No luck with that takedown attempt from Fertit. Fertit bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Fertit lands some shots froms side control. The ground and pound from Fertit seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Fertit thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fertit looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Paiva defending against the ground and pound. That was a close round but I would say that CJ Fertit will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on CJ Fertit's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Paiva lands a left and a right that send Fertit crashing to the mat, dazed. Paiva thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet! Nice takedown defense from Paiva. No joy for Fertit on that attempt. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fertit is defended easily by Paiva. Fertit looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Paiva is fending him off so far but Fertit persists. Nope, Paiva circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for CJ Fertit. That's going to take a lot out of him. Paiva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Fertit fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Paiva looks to land a right hand but Fertit moved out of range. Paiva fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fertit manages to avoid it. Paiva leaves Fertit with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. A jab lands there for Paiva.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fertit shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Fertit was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Paiva. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Paiva is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Fertit breaks from Paiva's wrist control and lands an elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fertit controlling the pace for now. Paiva is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Fertit has hold of Paiva's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Paiva manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Fertit is really struggling to control Paiva but he's trying to hold on to the position. Paiva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fertit. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Fertit is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Paiva can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Fertit moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Paiva has worked his arm free - good work by Paiva!

Possibly, maybe, no Fertit has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Fertit tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Fertit tries to score with some ground and pound. Paiva controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Not much technique there but it did the business. Paiva tries to bum rush Fertit with a series of wild strikes but Fertit uses good footwork to avoid the assault. No joy there for Paiva, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Fertit shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Paiva as he avoids it easily. Fertit shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Fertit showed some decent athleticism there. Fertit is trying to control the action in half guard but Paiva is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Fertit thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Paiva to regain full guard. Fertit drops back looking for a leg! Paiva is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Paiva manages to kick Fertit off! Fertit jumps back into Paiva's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fertit tries to free his leg and advance position but Paiva is retaining full guard. Paiva wants to stand and escape but Fertit is having none of it. Fertit stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Paiva swivels though and keeps the full guard. Paiva wants to stand and escape but Fertit is having none of it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Fertit shoots in for a double leg but Paiva sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Paiva lands an overhand right. Paiva looks for the body kick but Fertit saw that one coming. Fertit shoots in and bounces Paiva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Fertit has gone for a leg lock! Paiva slips out almost immediately though and dives into Fertit's guard. Paiva wants to stand but Fertit has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Fertit working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Paiva doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Paiva manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that's the end of the fight! Rafael Paiva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Paiva has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
