PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fjedor Jemelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Stalin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joseph Stalin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fjedor Jemelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joseph Stalin!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Dmitry Maklakov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jemelianenko swinging wildly here.
Stalin tries to clinch there but Jemelianenko circles away.

Stalin moves into range and clinches up with Jemelianenko.
Stalin connects with a nasty looking knee right to Jemelianenko's face.


It looks like Fjedor Jemelianenko has been cut.
Jemelianenko tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Jemelianenko has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stalin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Stalin breaks the clinch.
Stalin connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Stalin tries to close the distance and clinch but Jemelianenko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Stalin is looking to clinch but Jemelianenko is avoiding it.

Jemelianenko changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stalin tries to avoid it but Jemelianenko manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stalin to the ground. Stalin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jemelianenko shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stalin but Stalin pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Stalin uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jemelianenko.
Stalin stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stalin wants it to stay on the feet.

Jemelianenko slips a jab and a cross from Stalin.
Jemelianenko avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Stalin tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jemelianenko swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Stalin misses with a head kick.

Stalin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jemelianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jemelianenko thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Jemelianenko can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Stalin is looking to escape.

Stalin tries to clinch up.

Jemelianenko shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stalin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Jemelianenko sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Jemelianenko pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jemelianenko jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Stalin is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Stalin and Jemelianenko has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Jemelianenko is looking to take a break and control but Stalin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Stalin pushes Jemelianenko away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jemelianenko gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Stalin lands with a thumping leg kick.
Stalin tries to clinch there but Jemelianenko circles away.
A nice leg kick lands there from Stalin.

Jemelianenko shoots in and bounces Stalin off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jemelianenko throws a strike but Stalin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
