PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Ringo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grant Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steel has chosen Iron man as his entrance music. Grant Steel is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Ringo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grant Steel!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ringo loads up on a big right hand but Steel slips the punch.
Ringo takes a swing at Steel's ribcage but misses.
Ringo tries for a takedown but Steel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ringo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ringo.
Ringo has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Good standup being displayed there by Steel as he connects with a hook.
Steel takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Steel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Steel trying to move into half guard but instead Ringo has managed to sweep!
Ringo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ringo loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Steel looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Steel looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Ringo puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Ringo prevents Steel from improving his position.
Steel trying to control but Ringo postures up.
Steel is looking to improve his position.

Ringo is looking for a kimura here.
Steel trying to hold on to Ringo's head to control him but Ringo postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Ringo tries to clinch but Steel moves out of range.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ringo misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Steel.

Steel clinches with his opponent.
Steel gets underhooks to prevent Ringo's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Ringo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Steel is trying to break the clinch but Ringo has him pressed against the cage.
Steel's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Ringo goes for a takedown in the clinch but Steel prevents it.

Steel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Steel closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ringo to the mat! Ringo manages to get full guard.
Steel wants to stand and escape but instead Ringo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Ringo trying to control but Steel is working from the bottom.
Steel looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ringo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ringo prevents Steel from getting back to his feet.
Steel looks gassed!
Steel looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Ringo puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Steel wants to control but Ringo is keeping busy.

Ringo is trying to work for a kimura but Steel is defending well.
Steel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ringo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ringo has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
You get the feeling that Steel really doesn't like being in this position too much.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Steel is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Ringo controlling from the full mount.
Steel is just holding on here. Ringo manages to take his back.
Ringo trying to control momentarily.
Steel wants to escape the position.

Ringo is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Steel is defending well though. Ringo let's go of the attempt for now.
Steel wants to control his opponent's hands but Ringo gets his hands free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Johnny Ringo will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Steel throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Steel takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Steel throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Ringo takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Ringo just misses with a punch to the body.
Ringo with a poor takedown
and Steel counters with a nice uppercut.

Steel instigates a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Steel takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Steel wants to break the clinch but can't.

Steel breaks the clinch.
Steel tries a head kick but it misses.
A slapping body kick lands there for Steel.
Grant Steel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Steel tries to work over Ringo's front leg with a kick but Ringo checks it.
Steel keeps the fight on the outside.
Ringo keeps the fight on the outside.
Steel tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Steel wants to clinch.
Steel stuffs the takedown attempt from Ringo. Ringo gets slowly back to his feet.

Nice body kick from Steel.
Ringo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Steel manages to avoid it.

Ringo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Ringo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Steel, who protects the arm well.
Steel is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Ringo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Steel bucks up and tries to throw Ringo off but instead Ringo has got his back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ringo tightening his grip on Steel, looking for the choke.
Ringo lands a shot to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ringo controls the action.
Ringo gets his hands free as Steel looks to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ringo has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Ringo lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Ringo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Steel trying to get back to his feet but Ringo is in full control for now.
Ringo is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Johnny Ringo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ringo avoiding Steel 's attempts to control his hands.

Steel is looking to escape but he's done so without protecting himself and Ringo manages to counter with a nice rear naked choke! Steel is in trouble and he's forced to tap!
