And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Morris Payne!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Wagner Zegers and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Payne moves into the clinch.
Brinks tries to pull guard but Payne holds him up against the cage and eventually Brinks drops back down to his feet.

Brinks really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Brinks misses with a takedown attempt - Payne sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Brinks counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Brinks slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Morris Payne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Brinks throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Payne punishes Brinks's body with a nice straight punch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Payne buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Brinks takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Brinks darts in trying to clinch
and Payne makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Payne swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so Brinks counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Brinks wants to get up but he can't break Payne's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Payne is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Payne wants to stand up but Brinks is controlling him.
Brinks wants to control from the top but Payne keeps moving.

Payne working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brinks doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brinks manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Payne tries to close the distance and clinch but Brinks swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Payne throws a nice looking combination but Brinks bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Dough Brinks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Morris Payne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Payne counters with a three punch combo that has Brinks backing up. Brinks nods at Payne to acknowledge the strikes.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Payne.
Brinks shoots in for a takedown but Payne shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Brinks takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brinks blocks a head kick by Payne.
Brinks lunges at Payne with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Payne's hand.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

and Brinks counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Payne gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Brinks.
Payne is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Brinks shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Payne but Payne pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Brinks shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Payne manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Brinks wants to stand and escape but instead Payne has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Brinks wants to stand up but Payne is controlling him.

Payne is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Brinks is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Brinks has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dough Brinks.
I think Brinks has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
