PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zathras Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bepo Kroner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Art of War. The key to victory for Zathras Jones has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zathras Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bepo Kroner!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kroner misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Jones throws a push kick but Kroner slaps the foot to one side.
Jones misses with a looping left.

Jones gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kroner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones wants to stand but Kroner is controlling the position.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Kroner from controlling successfully.

Kroner is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jones moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Kroner shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.

Kroner is just content to waste time from the top position. Jones takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Kroner tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kroner drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jones manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kroner has Jones in his guard.
Jones wants to stand but Kroner is controlling his posture from full guard.

Kroner has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kroner had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jones is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kroner Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jones's back instead.

Kroner is looking for the choke from the back position but Jones is controlling his hands well.

Kroner is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Jones has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Jones trying to get back to his feet but Kroner is in full control for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jones is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Kroner gets his way!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Kroner goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Jones has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kroner but great work by Jones.

Jones decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kroner to his feet.
Kroner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kroner off to one side.

Kroner is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Jones is trying to get back to his feet.
Kroner tries to advance to mount but can't.

Kroner goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jones rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kroner's guard! Nice work there by Jones!
Kroner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kroner is working for a kimura but Jones is defending it quite comfortably.

Kroner wants to work for an arm triangle but Jones is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Kroner is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bepo Kroner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Kroner slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Zathras Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jones tries a low kick but Kroner avoids it.

Kroner drives through and clinches with Jones against the cage.

Kroner has a hand on Jones's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Jones takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kroner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice sprawl there from Jones as Kroner shoots in.
Jones tries to bum rush Kroner with a series of wild strikes but Kroner uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Kroner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kroner will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Kroner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Jones scores with a one two! Kroner had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.
Kroner looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jones throws a series of strikes that have Kroner backpedaling.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bepo Kroner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kroner winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
