Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ippo Makunouchi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, German Herrera! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Bruno Hogan and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Makunouchi waves his right hand out infront of him, looking to distract Herrera. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Herrera to the canvas! Can he finish him!?
Herrera is rocked! Herrera looking for a sweep. Not yet Herrera, not yet. Herrera is still in real trouble! Can Makunouchi finish him? Herrera has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Makunouchi has passed into side control.
Herrera tries to improve position but can't. Herrera seems to have recovered his senses. Herrera is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Makunouchi is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Herrera tries to get back to half guard but can't. Makunouchi trying to control but he's not successful this time. Herrera is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Makunouchi trying to control but Herrera is having none of it. Makunouchi controlling from mount. Herrera is looking to improve his position but Makunouchi isn't that keen on the idea. Herrera is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Makunouchi trying to control but Herrera is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Herrera can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Herrera is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Herrera is working to get back to half guard.
Herrera looks gassed! Makunouchi trying to control but Herrera is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Makunouchi controlling the pace for now. Herrera tries to reverse the position but Makunouchi maintains control. Makunouchi wants to control but Herrera has made it back to half guard. Nice work. Makunouchi tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Herrera.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Herrera actively working from the bottom here. Herrera with the active half guard here but Makunouchi passes nicely into side control. Herrera tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Makunouchi presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Herrera is squirming around, avoiding Makunouchi's attempts to control the action. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ippo Makunouchi dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Makunouchi clinches up against the cage. Makunouchi comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Makunouchi lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
It looks like German Herrera has been cut. Makunouchi is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Herrera is keeping busy. Nice elbow from Makunouchi. Makunouchi lands a damaging elbow. Herrera drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Makunouchi breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Herrera tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Makunouchi swivels and escapes. Nice sprawl there from Makunouchi as Herrera shoots in. Ippo Makunouchi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of German Herrera. Makunouchi waves his right hand out infront of him, looking to distract Herrera. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Herrera to the canvas! Can he finish him!?
Makunouchi stands and steps away. Herrera gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Makunouchi throws an overhand right that drops Herrera like a sack of potatoes! Makunouchi dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
