Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vasya Petrov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vasquez comes to the cage accompanied by Stone In My Hand - Everlast. Petrov comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Metallica "For Whom The Bell Tolls" kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Vasya Petrov looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Vasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vasya Petrov!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrov scores with a head kick.
Petrov looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Vasquez closes the distance and clinches.
Vasquez wants to break the clinch but can't.
Vasquez fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Vasquez is trying to break the clinch but Petrov is controlling him.
Vasquez has Petrov pressed against the cage, preventing Petrov from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Vasquez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vasquez throws a head kick but Petrov moves out of range.
Vasya Petrov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Petrov misses with a takedown attempt - Vasquez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Vasquez feints and as Petrov raises his hands in defense, Vasquez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Vasquez distracts Petrov with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Vasquez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Vasquez could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Petrov utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Vasquez stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Vasquez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Vasquez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Vasquez wants to stand but Petrov has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Still in half guard, Vasquez seems content to control.

Vasquez decides to stand up.

Vasquez rushes Petrov and presses him up against the cage.

Vasquez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A head kick misses from Vasquez.

Vasquez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Vasquez showed some decent athleticism there.
Vasquez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Petrov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Vasquez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Petrov's head.
Vasquez is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nice takedown defense from Petrov. No joy for Vasquez on that attempt.
Vasquez lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Petrov tries a head kick but it misses.
Petrov blocks a head kick by Vasquez.
Vasquez shoots for a double leg takedown but Petrov sprawls well. He's pushed Vasquez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Petrov tries to clinch up
and Vasquez counters with a straight right hand.
Vasquez wants to clinch.

Vasquez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Petrov was covering up waiting for the punch and Vasquez finishes the takedown easily into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Petrov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Petrov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vasquez keeps working.

Vasquez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Petrov!

Vasquezis looking to pass into half guard but Petrov pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Petrov is in guard.

Vasquez thows a huge punch but Petrov dodges it nicely.

Petrov keeping moving, preventing Vasquez from controlling successfully.
Vasquez is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Vasquez trying to control but Petrov is working from the bottom.
Vasquez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Vasquez stands and steps away. Petrov gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Vasquez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Vasquez is thwarting Petrov's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Vasquez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Petrov with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Vasquez decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Petrov, up you get!

Vasquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Petrov but Petrov pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Vasquez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Petrov won't be happy with that.
Vasquez postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Petrov regains half guard there - taking advantage of Vasquez's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Vasquez throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
It looks like Vasquez is going to stand back up.
Petrov is looking for a sweep. Vasquez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vasquez is keen to just control but Petrov is a slippery customer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Vasquez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

A frustrated look appears on Vasquez's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Petrov stops Vasquez from standing up.
Vasquez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Petrov!

Joe Vasquez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Vasquez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
