Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alistair Overeem! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Michael correa! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! correa scores with a head kick.
Overeem connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed correa momentarily.
correa gets the takedown into side control. Overeem is trying to buck correa off. correa trying to control the action but Overeem is working from the bottom. correa looking to control but instead Overeem has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Overeem pushes correa off looking to stand but correa dives back in and keeps control.
That's one minute gone in the round. correa wants to control but Overeem is keeping him busy. Overeem looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Overeem looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. correa tries to close the distance and clinch but Overeem swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. correa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Overeem sprawls well. Overeem wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. correa gets slowly back to his feet. correa looks gassed! Overeem closes the distance and lands a one-two.
That's two minutes gone in the round. correa drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. correa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Overeem. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Overeem is trying to get back to his feet. Overeem gets back to half guard. Overeem is refusing to be controlled, as correa sits in half guard. Overeem looking for submissions off his back. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. correa throws a strike but Overeem manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will correa tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!
