Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter Qura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Mezza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter Qura! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Mezza! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mezza throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Qura. Mezza on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Qura will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Mezza dodges the punch combination from Qura.
Mezza fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Qura manages to avoid it. Qura gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Qura looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Mezza pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mezza takes the fight into the clinch. Qura wants to break the clinch but can't.
Mezza keeps control of Qura as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Qura fails to pull the fight into his guard.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Mezza. Mezza tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Mezza is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Qura wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Mezza escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mezza walks into a stiff left hand from Qura. Mezza stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Qura. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Mezza counters with a one-two to the body. Mezza throws a series of punches but Qura avoids them all with ease. Mezza tries to clinch there but Qura circles away.

and Mezza counters with a nice uppercut. Oh Qura is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Mezza scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Qura doesn't seem bothered though. Qura seems to have got his legs back now. Qura is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mezza misses with a looping right. Mezza tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Mezza throws a combination that misses and Qura counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mezza won't be happy with that. The ground and pound from Qura seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Mezza is looking for a sweep. Qura tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Qura prevents Mezza from escaping the position. Mezza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Qura. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Qura taking a break here but Mezza is having none of it and regains half guard. Qura postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Mezza to stand up.

Qura is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Qura has his takedown stuffed and Mezza counters with a left to the body. Mezza throws a looping overhand right but Qura ducks down to avoid it. Mezza misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Qura escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mezza gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Mezza has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Qura is proving hard to escape from. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Steve Mezza dominated that round. The cut man is working on Peter Qura's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Mezza needs to keep his hands up - Qura had a free shot at his head there. Qura lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mezza circles away quickly and effectively. Steve Mezza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mezza misses with a combination
and Qura counters with a nice double leg into guard. Mezza wants to stand and escape but Qura is having none of it. Qura is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mezza is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mezza has escaped and now he's on top! Mezza must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Qura looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mezza stands up from Qura's guard - Mezza perhaps looking for a knockout. Mezza showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Qura.

Mezza tries to close the distance and clinch but Qura swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Mezza gets caught flat footed, as Qura shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Qura throwing strikes but missing. Qura trying to control the position from guard on top but Mezza is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Qura is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mezza is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mezza has escaped and now he's on top! A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mezza accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Qura has an active guard here but Mezza has managed to pass into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mezza missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Peter Qura overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Qura is looking to improve his position.
Mezza decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Qura misses with a double jab
and Mezza counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Qura had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mezza defends it easily. Qura is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mezza is aware though and is defending well. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Qura throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Mezza escapes and throws Qura's legs to the side, diving into side control! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

It's a sloppy attempt though and Qura jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Qura connects with a couple of short punches. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Qura pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mezza is keeping the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Qura postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mezza is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Qura, into his guard. Qura throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Mezza wants to control from the top but Qura keeps moving. Qura throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Mezza escapes and throws Qura's legs to the side, diving into side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Qura is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Qura tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mezza wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Qura is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Qura is looking for a sweep.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Qura on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

and Qura counters with a single leg into guard. Mezza didn't expect that. Qura won't allow Mezza to get back to his feet. Mezza keeping moving, preventing Qura from controlling successfully. Qura stops Mezza from standing up. Qura thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Mezza scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Mezza throws a right hand that Qura ducks under and follows up with a left that Qura also avoids with ease. Qura throws a wild combination but nothing lands. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Qura. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Qura. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mezza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Qura's guard. Mezza gets to his feet. Qura looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Qura tries to clinch there but Mezza circles away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Qura throws out a loose jab but Mezza uses good head movement to avoid it. Qura is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mezza. A combination from Mezza does no damage. Qura shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mezza manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peter Qura. I think Qura has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
