Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rin Sadako! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Thiago Alves ! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sadako shoots in looking for a takedown. Alves tries to sprawl out of it but Sadako keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Alves manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Alves tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Sadako fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Sadako forces Alves back against the cage and clinches. Alves manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Alves wants to control the position but Sadako says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Alves trying to hold on to Sadako's head to control him but Sadako postures up.
Sadako knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alves on the ground. Sadako is pressing down on Alves 's thigh, looking to free his foot. Alves is holding on for now. Alves moves into full guard.
Sadako wants to stand but Alves is controlling his posture from full guard. Sadako is breathing heavily. Alves working a defensive guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sadako prevents Alves from getting back to his feet. Alves is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Alves throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Nice takedown defense from Sadako. No joy for Alves on that attempt. Sadako changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alves looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Sadako goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Alves rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Sadako's guard! Nice work there by Alves ! Alves wants to control from the top but Sadako keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alves trying to control but Sadako is working from the bottom. Alves is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Alves stands up from Sadako's guard - Alves perhaps looking for a knockout. Alves closes the distance but Sadako moves to the side and Sadako counters with a nice double leg into side control. Alves won't be happy with that. Alves is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Alves is trying to control Sadako's posture but Sadako avoids it. Alves is pushing Sadako's head away, looking to escape. Sadako manages to hold on to the position though. Alves is looking for a sweep. Sadako tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Alves is not content to let Sadako control the position. Sadako laying and praying for a moment but Alves takes advantage and regains half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Alves trying to control here.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Nice sprawl there from Alves as Sadako shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rin Sadako. That's going to take a lot out of him. Alves fails with the takedown and Sadako counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Alves ! Sadako trying to control but Alves is having none of it. Sadako sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Alves is working to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rin Sadako dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Sadako will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Alves shoots and misses and Sadako counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sadako. Sadako won't allow Alves to sweep him here. Alves is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Sadako tries to free his leg and advance position but Alves is retaining full guard. Sadako has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Alves is proving hard to escape from. Alves trying to keep a closed guard but Sadako is proving a slippery customer.
Sadako pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Alves is keeping the position for now. Alves looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Sadako blocks the body kick.
Alves shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sadako sprawls well. Sadako wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alves gets slowly back to his feet. Sadako drives through with a takedown into guard. Sadako gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Alves circles away from the clinch attempt.
Alves with a poor takedown and Sadako counters with a takedown into side control. Rin Sadako has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thiago Alves . A lull in the action here. Sadako landing strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sadako connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Alves some visible discomfort.
Sadako wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alves keeps working. Alves sneaks back into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Alves won't allow Sadako to pass to mount. Sadako is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Alves doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sadako. Sadako prevents Alves from standing back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sadako stands up from half guard. Alves decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Sadako is trying to control but can't.
Sadako trying to get back to full guard but Alves takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Rin Sadako overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Alves cracks Sadako with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sadako looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight. Alves postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sadako looks a forlorn figure.
Alves trying to control but he's not successful this time. Sadako is looking to get to half guard. Alves avoids the attempt from Sadako to control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rin Sadako dominated that second round. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Alves shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sadako but Sadako pushes him off and we're back to square one. Alves tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Alves shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Alves was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Sadako sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Alves not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Alves is trying to control. Sadako wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Alves is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Sadako might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. The fighters are battling for position here. Sadako manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sadako throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Alves wants to stand but Sadako has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Sadako trying to control the position here. Alves would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Sadako wants to stand and escape but Alves is having none of it. Alves trying to control but Sadako is working from the bottom. Alves working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Alves looking to pass the guard.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Sadako is looking to land body kicks.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sadako instigates a clinch. Sadako fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Alves is working for takedown but Sadako is calmly controlling the position for now. Sadako manages to break the clinch.
Sadako tries to clinch up and Alves counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sadako! Sadako throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Alves lands a big elbow. Alves wants to control the pace but Sadako is squirming around nicely. Sadako is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Rin Sadako is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sadako takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Sadako is working to get back to half guard.
Alves is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sadako is surviving well by controlling Alves 's body position as best he can. Sadako has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Alves 's lack of action.
And that's the end of the fight! Thiago Alves comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Sadako has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
