The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alastair looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Horrible takedown by Shamrock or perhaps it was just good defense by Alastair which made him look bad.
Alastair fails in his attempt to clinch.

Alastair tries to close the distance and clinch but Shamrock swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Alastair gets through Shamrock's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Alastair gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Shamrock.
Dante Alastair has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bank Shamrock.
Shamrock lands an elbow just above Alastair 's eye.
Shamrock keeps control of Alastair as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Alastair has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Shamrock avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Shamrock goes for a takedown attempt but Alastair pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Alastair pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Alastair looks to land a combination but Shamrock avoids it well.
Bank Shamrock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shamrock has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Alastair is looking to clinch.

and Alastair counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Alastair gets to his feet - Shamrock follows without any prompting.

Alastair shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shamrock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alastair throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shamrock works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Shamrock takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Shamrock tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alastair wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Shamrock fails with the takedown

and Alastair counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Shamrock's guard now.
Alastair tries to free his leg and advance position but Shamrock is retaining full guard.
Shamrock manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alastair manages to get himself to full guard.
Alastair throwing rabbit punches from the bottom - showing the judges that he's keeping busy.
Alastair wants to sweep but no luck.
Shamrock has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Alastair wants to get back to his feet but Shamrock is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Alastair with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Alastair shoots in for a double leg but Shamrock sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Alastair throws a wild body kick that Shamrock sees coming a mile off.

Shamrock looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Alastair on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Alastair tries to get out of the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Shamrock postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Alastair to stand up.
Alastair fails to land with a series of punches.
Alastair looks to land a combination but Shamrock avoids it well.
Alastair tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shamrock swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Alastair tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Alastair lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Shamrock sprawling to the canvas. Alastair follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Shamrock hang on?
Shamrock is still in real trouble! Can Alastair finish him?
Alastair lands strikes from half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alastair working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Alastair winds up and cracks Shamrock with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Alastair stands up out of the half guard.

Alastair dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Shamrock has had enough and taps out.
