PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mitch The Itch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jude Cotterell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jude Cotterell will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mitch The Itch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jude Cotterell!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paulsen Ambrosius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cotterell misses with a takedown attempt - The Itch sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Cotterell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts The Itch as he jumps to the side.
The Itch looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cotterell is fending him off so far but The Itch persists. Nope, Cotterell circles away and we're back to standing.
Cotterell throws a low kick but The Itch avoids it.

The Itch looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Cotterell!
Cotterell is looking to get to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cotterell can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cotterell is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The Itch has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Cotterell's face.
The Itch controlling from mount.
Cotterell can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cotterell sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
The Itch is looking to take a break and control but Cotterell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The Itch decides to stand up.

and The Itch counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cotterell won't be happy with that.
Mitch The Itch has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jude Cotterell.
Cotterell bucks up and tries to throw The Itch off but instead The Itch has got his back!
The Itch lands a shot to the body.

The Itch connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Cotterell to escape the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The Itch gets his hands free as Cotterell looks to control.
The Itch has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The Itch has Cotterell flattened out and is raining down punches.

Cotterell is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if The Itch gets his way!

The Itch looking to break Cotterell's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Cotterell remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise The Itch will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

The Itch is breathing heavily.
You can see the frustration on Cotterell's face� He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The Itch tries to get the hooks in deep but Cotterell pushed the leg off.
The Itch is really struggling to control Cotterell but he's trying to hold on to the position.
I really don't envy Cotterell right now.
The Itch gets his hands free as Cotterell looks to control.
Cotterell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with The Itch. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cotterell rolls, trying to escape but The Itch keeps control of the position.
The Itch punches the canvas rather than the man.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The Itch trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

The Itch is persistently looking for the submission but Cotterell is defending it well.
Cotterell is trying to get back to his feet but The Itch has full control of the position and if anything, Cotterell has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Cotterell trying to control but not successfully.
Cotterell looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Mitch The Itch dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Cotterell looks to clinch

and The Itch counters with a shoot takedown. Cotterell fights it but they end up in guard.
The Itch controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cotterell is trying to control the position but The Itch postures up.
Cotterell might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control The Itch kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Cotterell wants to sweep but no luck.
The Itch seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The Itch trying to control but Cotterell is working from the bottom.

Cotterell looking to hit a scissor sweep but The Itch is one step ahead there.
The Itch wants to control from the top but Cotterell keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cotterell lands the left hand.
The Itch tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cotterell moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Mitch The Itch has been cut.
Cotterell has his takedown stuffed

and The Itch decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cotterell's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The Itch trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The Itch slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Cotterell is looking to stand up but The Itch isn't so interested in that idea.
The Itch wants to control from the top but Cotterell keeps moving.

Cotterell looking for subs off his back but The Itch has passed one foot through into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The Itch is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cotterell defends it well.
The Itch perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The Itch moves into full mount! Cotterell won't be happy about that!
The Itch takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The Itch can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cotterell is looking to escape.
The Itch lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Cotterell hang on?
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Mitch The Itch's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



The Itch feints and as Cotterell raises his hands in defense, The Itch changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mitch The Itch overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cotterell wants to control but The Itch passes easily into half guard.
Cotterell trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Cotterell is desperately trying to improve his position but The Itch has a good base and remains in mount.
Cotterell wants to control but The Itch is having none of it.
Cotterell is squirming around, avoiding The Itch's attempts to control the action.
Cotterell is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The Itch is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Cotterell can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Cotterell keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The Itch looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

It looks like Jude Cotterell has been cut.
The Itch looking to control and managing it successfully.

The Itch stands up from mount. Strange move.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The Itch shoots for a double leg takedown but Cotterell sprawls well. He's pushed The Itch's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The Itch misses the shot to the body.
The Itch fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cotterell fails with the takedown.
Cotterell's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Cotterell duly obliges.
The Itch fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cotterell avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mitch The Itch. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cotterell fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cotterell doesn't succeed with the takedown

and The Itch counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Cotterell!

The Itch sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Cotterell tries to hold on but The Itch postures up.
Cotterell is trying to reverse the position but instead The Itch has taken his back - oops!
The Itch is riding his opponent, not letting Cotterell buck him off.

The Itch patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cotterell looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Will The Itch go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Cotterell breaks The Itch's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mitch The Itch showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for The Itch, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
