PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vincent Nickerson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ranta Ringen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nickerson's entrance music is I Stand Alone. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nickerson fails to land with a series of punches.
Ringen wants to clinch up but Nickerson keeps it at a distance.
Nickerson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ringen pinned against the cage. Ringen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nickerson scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
An inside leg kick lands from Ringen.
Nickerson is breathing heavily.
Ringen tries to clinch there but Nickerson circles away.
Ringen is looking to clinch but Nickerson is avoiding it.

Ringen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nickerson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Nickerson is trying to maintain the position but Ringen is very close to passing his half guard.
Ringen tries to stand and escape but Nickerson is controlling the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Ringen obliges.

That's time! Nickerson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Ringen closes the distance and pushes Nickerson back into the cage.
Ringen landing knees to the head.
Ringen wants a takedown.
Ringen crunches a lovely knee into Nickerson's ribcage.

Ringen has Nickerson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ringen pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Nickerson tumbling to the mat - Ringen dives into Nickerson's guard.
Nickerson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nickerson is working for a guillotine from mount but Ringen frees his head quite easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Ringen tries to lock up and control but Nickerson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Nickerson won't let Ringen get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Nickerson wants to control the pace but Ringen is squirming around nicely.
Ringen manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Nickerson is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Ringen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nickerson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ringen wants to get back to full guard but Nickerson has passed into side control.
Nickerson unloads with some shots from mount but Ringen bucks and avoids them well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nickerson looking to control but Ringen is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ranta Ringen will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Ringen closes the distance and pushes Nickerson back into the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Ringen.

Nickerson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ringen fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Vincent Nickerson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ringen is looking to clinch but Nickerson is avoiding it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Ringen counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ringen.

Nickerson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ringen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ringen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ringen moves into the clinch.

Nickerson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ringen regains guard immediately.
Nickerson wants to control from the top but Ringen keeps moving.
Nickerson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nickerson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ringen is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Ranta Ringen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Nickerson is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Ringen lands an elbow just above Nickerson 's eye.
Ringen lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Ranta Ringen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ringen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
