PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Billy Flash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justun wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Billy Flash has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Billy Flash seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Flash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justun wood!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Roberts and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Flash feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
wood wants to sweep but no luck.
wood bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Flash's guard.
wood sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Flash's guard.
wood wants to advance to full mount but Flash doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
wood won't allow Flash to get back to his feet.
Flash wants to sweep here but wood controlling him for the moment.
Flash is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
wood wants to pass the guard but Flash is keeping the position.
wood wants to control from the top but Flash keeps moving.

wood is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Flash looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Flash shoots in for a takedown but wood shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Flash tries to score a power double leg takedown but wood sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Flash somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Flash. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Flash tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Flash avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Flash fails in his attempt to clinch.
Flash could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Flash closes this distance looking for a takedown but wood circles away.
Flash shoots in but no luck this time.

Flash shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with wood but wood pushes him off and we're back to square one.

wood manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Flash manages to get himself to full guard.

wood fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Flash avoids it really well and circles away.
Billy Flash seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and wood decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Flash's guard.

wood is taking a breather. Flash says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Flash tries to kick wood off but wood keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Flash wants to control but wood is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justun wood dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

wood is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Flash has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of wood is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Flash counters with a shoot takedown. wood fights it but they end up in guard.
Flash tries to free his leg and advance position but wood is retaining full guard.
Flash postures up in wood's guard and throws a big left but wood blocks it.

wood in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Flash tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from wood!
