PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Santos Borreco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raul Vieira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Borreco comes to the cage accompanied by "Gladiator" by Common. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Santos Borreco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raul Vieira!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Borreco.

Vieira shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Borreco manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Vieira sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Vieira tries to free his leg and advance position but Borreco is retaining full guard.

Vieira got a little sloppy there for a moment and Borreco has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Vieira has managed to get both his arms back between Borreco's legs - danger averted.

Vieira is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Vieira stands up and waves to Borreco to follow him.

Vieira gets the takedown into side control.

Vieira is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Borreco's shoulder. That is not cool.
Vieira throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Borreco is letting Vieira control him for a moment.
The strikes coming from Vieira are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Vieira tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Vieira stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Vieira fails with the takedown

and Borreco counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Vieira is trying to get back to full guard.

Vieira is pressing down on Borreco's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Vieira is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vieira looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Vieira lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Borreco!
Borreco is breathing heavily.
Vieira working away from the top, dropping strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raul Vieira dominated that round.

Vieira gets the takedown into side control.
Borreco takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Borreco tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Vieira controlling the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Vieira's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Despite being in the dominant position, Raul Vieira just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Vieira throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Borreco was covering up waiting for the punch and Vieira finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Borreco has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vieira can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Vieira passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Vieira taking a breather here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Despite being in the dominant position, Raul Vieira just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Vieira drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Vieira passes Borreco's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raul Vieira showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Vieira bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Vieira is putting a hurting on Borreco here, landing some big shots from side control.

Vieira working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Vieira has hold of Borreco's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Borreco seems comfortable defending it but Vieira has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Borreco is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Borreco is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Vieira couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Raul Vieira!
