The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smithers scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Smithers looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Smithers closes the distance and clinches.
Smithers manages to break the clinch.
Rivers throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Smithers closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rivers circles away.
Smithers shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rivers as he jumps to the side.
A solid leg kick lands there for Smithers.
Smithers throws a head kick that Rivers semi-blocks.
Rivers shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smithers but Smithers pushes him off and we're back to square one.
No joy there for Smithers, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smithers avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rivers bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Smithers gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Smithers can't escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Rivers lands a big elbow.
Rivers content just to control the position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Poor strikes thrown by Rivers there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Rivers looking to isolate an arm here. Smithers doesn't see it coming and as Rivers extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Rivers!
