Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryu Hoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renan Queiroz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Renan Queiroz! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Sano and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hoshi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Queiroz is looking to clinch. Hoshi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hoshi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Queiroz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Queiroz closes the distance and pushes Hoshi back into the cage. Queiroz tries a knee to the head but Hoshi blocks it.

Queiroz gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. The fight stays on the outside here - Hoshi looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hoshi shoots for a double leg takedown but Queiroz sprawls well. He's pushed Hoshi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Hoshi pushes Queiroz up against the cage in a clinch.

Hoshi goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Hoshi takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Hoshi clinches with his opponent.
Hoshi has had enough of the clinch but Queiroz keeps him there for the moment. Queiroz with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Queiroz changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hoshi fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Hoshi scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Queiroz darts in trying to clinch and Hoshi finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. Decent striking displayed by Hoshi there. Hoshi wants to clinch up but Queiroz keeps it at a distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hoshi shoots in for a double leg but Queiroz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Queiroz misses with a takedown and Hoshi counters with a lovely shot to the body. Hoshi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Queiroz keeping moving, preventing Hoshi from controlling successfully. Queiroz doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Queiroz wants to stand up but Hoshi is controlling him. Hoshi throws a big right hand that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Queiroz is looking for a triangle but Hoshi pushes his legs off easily.

Hoshi gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Hoshi lands with a kick to the temple. Queiroz shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Queiroz darts in trying to clinch and Hoshi counters with a low kick, right behind Queiroz 's knee.
That's one minute gone in the round. Queiroz fails with the takedown and Hoshi counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hoshi. Hoshi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Hoshi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Queiroz paws at him with a jab and circles away. Queiroz tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Hoshi counters with a lovely straight right hand! Hoshi goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Queiroz throws a sloppy head kick and Hoshi counters with a left and a right that stings Queiroz. Hoshi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Hoshi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Queiroz wants to get back to his feet.
Hoshi is landing with some decent strikes but Queiroz is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hoshi lands with some strikes. Queiroz sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Hoshi trying to control from half guard but Queiroz is working away. Queiroz tries to kick Hoshi off but Hoshi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Hoshi trying to control the action but Queiroz is working from the bottom. Queiroz is trying to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Queiroz darts in trying to clinch and Hoshi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Hoshi displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Queiroz wants to clinch and Hoshi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Queiroz won't be happy with that. Queiroz sneaks out the side door and pushes Hoshi away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. The fight moves into the clinch position. Queiroz lands a right hand that snaps the head of Hoshi backwards. Queiroz misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Hoshi.

Horrible takedown by Queiroz or perhaps it was just good defense by Hoshi which made him look bad. Queiroz tries to keep at a distance but Hoshi has taken the fight into the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A head punch on the inside from Queiroz fails to land. Hoshi is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. A head punch blocked on the inside by Hoshi. Queiroz digs a right hand into Hoshi's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Hoshi's gas tank. Hoshi manages to break the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Queiroz punishing his opponent with strikes. Hoshi tries to buck Queiroz off but he can't manage it. Queiroz wants to control the pace but Hoshi is squirming around nicely. The referee warns Hoshi that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Hoshi has Queiroz pressed against the cage, preventing Queiroz from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Queiroz throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hoshi blocks it with crossed arms. Queiroz tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Hoshi jumps guard and drags Queiroz to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Hoshi lands a decent shot there. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Queiroz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hoshi pushes Queiroz off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Queiroz tries to clinch up but Hoshi circles away and keeps his distance. Hoshi misses with a two punch combination.
Ryu Hoshi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Ryu Hoshi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Queiroz throws a head kick that misses and Hoshi counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Renan Queiroz. Well Hoshi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
