The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Freebase throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Freebase throws a right and a left that Kumar avoids nicely. Johnny Freebase seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Freebase misses the jab. Kumar walks into a straight right hand from Freebase. Freebase throws a hook but Kumar blocks it. Kumar closes the distance and clinches. Kumar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Freebase throws a lazy right hand but Kumar sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Freebase misses with a low kick. Kumar has closed the distance and engaged Freebase in a clinch.

Kumar is trying to drag Freebase to the mat but Freebase just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Freebase tries to break free but Kumar pushes him back against the cage. Kumar prevents Freebase from breaking the clinch. Freebase wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Freebase wants to break free but Kumar has control.
Kumar gets a trip takedown into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's one minute gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kumar in particular looking to stall. Kumar drops an elbow to the side of Freebase's head. Freebase is trying to stand up here but Kumar is controlling him well. Kumar looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Kumar not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Kumar is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Freebase still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Freebase has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Kumar is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Freebase off and has taken his back! Freebase is trying to get back to his feet but Kumar has full control of the position and if anything, Freebase has just worked his way into a worse spot. Kumar controlling from the back. Kumar is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kumar looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. Freebase is controlling Kumar 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard. Kumar is working an open guard so Freebase takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Kumar closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Kumar throwing shots but missing, from side control. Kumar is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Freebase's shoulder. That is not cool. Kumar scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Freebase to see if he's OK.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kumar looks up at the clock and then as Freebase takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Kumar smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Freebase parries the strikes from Kumar easily there. Kumar is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Freebase to escape.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Kumar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kumar works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Kumar is working Freebase over with some ground and pound from side control. Kumar thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Freebase stops Kumar from passing to mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kumar is trying to ground and pound but Freebase uses the momentary lack of control by Kumar to regain half guard. Kumar content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Freebase is not content to let Kumar control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Varun Kumar dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kumar closes the distance and clinches. Freebase wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kumar has him pressed against the cage. Freebase is trying to force a seperation but Kumar has the dominant position. Freebase wants to break the clinch but can't.

Freebase misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kumar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Freebase circles away quickly and effectively. Freebase throws a solid leg kick but Kumar takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Freebase. Freebase throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Freebase misses with a wild combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Freebase rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kumar moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Freebase fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kumar shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Kumar is keen to just control but Freebase is a slippery customer. Freebase is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kumar is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Freebase is just riding it out for now. Kumar eventually gives up the hold. Kumar landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Freebase avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kumar.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Kumar looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Kumar controlling the action here. Kumar scoring with strikes to the body and head. Kumar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Freebase knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Kumar throwing shots but Freebase is blocking nicely. Kumar working over Freebase with some ground and pound. Freebase looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Kumar content to control rather than advance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Freebase wants to get back to his feet. Kumar works his foot free and advances to mount. Kumar throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Kumar controlling his opponent. Kumar unloading with bombs!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Freebase in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Kumar sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Kumar raining down shots from the mount! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kumar looking to control but Freebase is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Kumar putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Varun Kumar dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Freebase misses with a straight left. Freebase fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Kumar tries to clinch up but Freebase circles away and keeps his distance. Freebase motions for Kumar to come forward. Freebase throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Kumar showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Freebase.
Freebase misses with a low kick as Kumar jumps back. Kumar bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Kumar scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Freebase is trying to escape the position but Kumar is controlling the position. Freebase is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kumar is controlling him well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kumar wants to control but Freebase is keeping him busy. Freebase is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Freebase is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Freebase takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Freebase stops Kumar from passing to mount. Freebase is letting Kumar control him for a moment. Varun Kumar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kumar trying to control the action but Freebase is working from the bottom. Kumar with the ground and pound but Freebase regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Kumar missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Kumar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Freebase pushes Kumar off and gets back to his feet. Freebase looks for the body kick but Kumar saw that one coming. Kumar drives through and clinches with Freebase against the cage.

Kumar has a closed guard, preventing Freebase from standing up. Kumar looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Freebase tries to stand but Kumar is controlling from the bottom. Kumar is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Johnny Freebase has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kumar looking for a sweep. Not yet Kumar, not yet. Kumar looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Freebase tries to stand but Kumar is controlling from the bottom. Freebase is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Varun Kumar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
And that's the end of the fight! Varun Kumar showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kumar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
