Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kris Young (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kris Young is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Young looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Maia tries to move to full mount but Young actually manages to regain half guard. Maia seems to be working for a kimura but Young defends the submission attempt. Young trying to control from the bottom.
Maia tries to pass to full mount but Young defends it. Maia looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Maia wants to pass the guard but Young is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Young wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Maia shoots in for a takedown but Young shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Young tries to bum rush Maia with a series of wild strikes but Maia uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Maia fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Maia looks for a takedown but Young sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maia shoots in for a takedown but Young shows good takedown defense.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Maia shoots in but Young avoids the takedown attempt easily. Young throws a jab but it's blocked by Maia. Maia darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Maia is working for a kimura but Young is defending it quite comfortably.
Maia is working for a submission of some sort.
Young really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Young wants to control but Maia is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia seems to be working for a kimura but Young defends the submission attempt. Young is staying active underneath Maia, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Young is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Maia's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Maia's back! Young struggling to keep hold of the position.
What can Maia do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Maia breaks Young's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Maia has gone for a leg lock! Young slips out almost immediately though and dives into Maia's guard. Young not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Young is looking to stand up but Maia won't let him. Maia wants to sweep here but Young controlling him for the moment. Maia keeping full guard, as Young tries to pass. Young trying to control the position from guard on top but Maia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that John Maia will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Young jabbing away but nothing is landing. Maia closes the distance and clinches up with Young, looking for a takedown. Maia pushes Young against the cage but Young circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Young scores with a nice strike. Kris Young is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Maia walks into a left hand. Horrible takedown by Maia or perhaps it was just good defense by Young which made him look bad. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Maia. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him. Young drops Maia with a beautiful combination! Maia stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Young is looking for the KO!
Maia is rocked!
It looks like John Maia has been cut. Maia ducks into an uppercut from Young and that's knocked him out cold! This one is all over!
