PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rick Steiner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Givens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Michael Givens was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Steiner!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Givens!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steiner closes the distance and clinches.
Steiner is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Givens is keeping busy.
Steiner prevents Givens from breaking the clinch.
Steiner is trying to maintain a safe position but Givens gets an underhook and turns Steiner into the cage.

Steiner manages to break the clinch.

Steiner closes the distance and clinches.
A body shot lands from Steiner.
Givens wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Steiner wants a takedown.
Steiner really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Givens manages to break the clinch.
Steiner tries a head kick but it misses.
Givens misses with the combination.
Givens throws a series of punches but Steiner avoids them all with ease.

Steiner has taken the fight to the clinch.
Givens is looking to break free of the clinch but Steiner has double underhooks.
Steiner is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Givens gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Steiner is looking to control Givens's arms but Givens gets an underhook and turns him. Now Steiner has his back to the cage.
Steiner tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Givens smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rick Steiner. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Givens moves into the clinch successfully.
Givens wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Steiner gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Givens regains guard.
Steiner wants to stand but Givens has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Steiner pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Givens is keeping the position for now.

Givens is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Givens looks gassed!
Steiner working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Givens's head.

Steiner slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Steiner prevents Givens from escaping the position.

Steiner has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Steiner shoots in and drives through. Givens sprawls well.

Givens has Steiner up against the cage in a clinch.
Givens is looking to break free of the clinch but Steiner has double underhooks.
Givens wants to break the clinch but can't.

Steiner can't break the clinch.
Givens wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Givens is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Givens tries to keep at a distance but Steiner has taken the fight into the clinch.

Michael Givens is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Steiner scoring well with a low kick there.

Givens throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Steiner.
Givens uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Steiner.

and Steiner decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Givens's guard.

Givens pushes Steiner off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Steiner tries to bum rush Givens with a series of wild strikes but Givens uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Steiner feints and as Givens raises his hands in defense, Steiner changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Givens wants to get back to his feet but Steiner is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Givens is working an open guard so Steiner takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Steiner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Steiner is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Michael Givens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Givens falls off balance throwing a combination
and Steiner counters with a head kick. That will keep Givens thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Steiner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Steiner has hold of Givens's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Givens seems comfortable defending it but Steiner has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Givens is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Givens is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Steiner couldn't care less - he's delighted!
