PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tami Flu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorma Kaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flu comes to the cage accompanied by Disturbed- down with the sickness. Kaki has chosen MacGyver Theme as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tami Flu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jorma Kaki!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Kaki.
Kaki lands with a kick to the temple. Flu shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Flu fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Kaki.

Flu has managed to clinch.
Flu lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Jorma Kaki has been cut.
Flu landing knees to the body.
Flu with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Flu blocks the elbow strike.
Kaki tries to score a body lock takedown but Flu shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Flu utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Kaki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kaki shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Flu is desperately trying to improve his position but Kaki has a good base and remains in mount.
Flu is working hard here to advance position.
Kaki scoring with strikes but Flu is staying in there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Flu is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Flu trying to control but Kaki postures up.
Kaki passes the guard and advances to mount!

Kaki jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Flu manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Kaki advances nicely into full mount.
Flu is desperately trying to improve his position but Kaki has a good base and remains in mount.
Flu might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kaki is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Flu is wriggling around trying to escape.
Kaki pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Kaki can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Flu is looking to escape.
Flu is in all sorts of trouble here.
Kaki controlling the position easily from mount.

Kaki jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Flu is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Flu and Kaki has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Flu is looking to reverse the position.

Flu regains half guard.
Kaki controlling the action here.
Kaki seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Kaki throwing shots but Flu is blocking nicely.
Kaki wants to take a breather but Flu is having none of it.
Flu moves into full guard.
Flu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Flu is looking for a triangle but Kaki pushes his legs off easily.
Flu keeping moving, preventing Kaki from controlling successfully.

Kaki trying to stand up but can't free himself from Flu's guard.

Flu is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kaki slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Flu looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Flu is working an open guard so Kaki takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jorma Kaki will probably get the nod.

A chopping leg kick lands by Flu.
Flu lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Flu looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Flu throws a leg kick but Kaki checks it.
An inside leg kick lands from Flu.
Kaki looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Flu misses with a straight right.
Kaki blocks the body kick.
Kaki fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Flu throws a half hearted mid kick.
Kaki is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Flu clinches up with Kaki and pushes him back against the cage.
Flu throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Kaki has Flu pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Flu manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Tami Flu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jorma Kaki.
Flu looking to throw knees to the head but Kaki is blocking nicely.

Kaki has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Flu clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
A lull in the action here.
Kaki is breathing heavily.

Flu breaks Kaki's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Flu lands a couple of elbows.
Flu working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kaki controls Flu momentarily but Flu frees himself.
Flu lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kaki had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Flu defends it easily.
Flu scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Flu accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Flu postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kaki is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Flu, into his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kaki avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kaki pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Flu is keeping the position for now.
Kaki passes Flu's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Flu is refusing to be controlled, as Kaki sits in half guard.
Flu tries to get to full guard but Kaki has control of the leg.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Flu looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Kaki is trying to control. Flu wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kaki stuns Flu with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Kaki moves into the clinch.
Flu tries a knee to the head but Kaki blocks it.
Flu using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Kaki has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Kaki breaks the clinch.

Kaki clinches.

Kaki pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Flu misses with a leg kick.
Tami Flu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Flu tries to clinch up but Kaki circles away and keeps his distance.

Flu is looking to clinch.
Kaki moves out of range of the leg kick from Flu.
Kaki slaps away a takedown attempt from Flu, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kaki shoots in but Flu avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kaki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Flu's waist but Flu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kaki off to one side.
Flu lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Kaki avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kaki throws a sloppy head kick and Flu moves out of range easily.
Kaki defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Flu.

Kaki drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Kaki tries to free his leg and advance position but Flu is retaining full guard.

Flu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kaki doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kaki manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kaki keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Flu's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Kaki lands a nice leg kick that just misses Flu's sensitive parts.
Kaki lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Flu backs up against the cage.
Flu throws a hook but Kaki blocks it.
Kaki fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Flu tries a head kick but it misses.

Flu circles away from the clinch attempt.
Flu tries to clinch but Kaki is having none of it.

Kaki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kaki throws a combination. Flu tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Flu darts in trying to clinch
and Kaki counters with a nice uppercut.
Flu throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Flu on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Kaki tries to clinch but Flu is having none of it.

The fight stays on the outside here - Flu looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Kaki is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Flu's half guard.

Flu tries to get to full guard but Kaki has control of the leg.

Kaki decides to stand up.
Kaki pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A nice combination there by Kaki.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kaki looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kaki misses with a head kick.
Flu fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Kaki is out of range.
Flu throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kaki.
Flu throws a lazy head kick
and Kaki counters with a low kick, right behind Flu 's knee.
Flu closes the distance but Kaki moves to the side

and Kaki counters with a nice double leg into side control. Flu won't be happy with that.

Flu wants to sweep but Kaki has passed to side control!
Flu sneaks back into half guard.
Kaki uses his free foot to push down on Flu's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Flu.

Flu is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Kaki has control of Flu's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Flu regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Kaki lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Kaki trying to control but Flu is having none of it.
Tami Flu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Flu is trying to escape the mount.
Flu is squirming around, avoiding Kaki's attempts to control the action.
Kaki working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Flu is working to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Flu sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Flu is looking for a sweep. Kaki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jorma Kaki is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Flu slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Jorma Kaki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kaki winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
