The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Simpson with that takedown attempt.
A looping hook to the body misses from Lionel. Simpson does a little dance to reset his feet.

Lionel shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Simpson is trying to defend but Lionel finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Simpson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lionel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Lionel is working Simpson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Lionel might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Simpson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Lionel is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Simpson defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
