Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Young (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenji Okabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Young!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenji Okabe!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Young misses with a few strikes there.
Young throws a nice looking combination but Okabe bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Okabe showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Young.
Young scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Young avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Okabe misses with a double jab.
Young steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Okabe.

Okabe drives through with a takedown into guard.
Young wants to stand but Okabe is controlling the position.
Young knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Okabe on the ground.
Young controls Okabe momentarily but Okabe frees himself.
Young keeping moving, preventing Okabe from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Okabe looking to pass the guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Okabe drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Okabe jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Okabe won't allow Young to get back to his feet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Okabe.
Young misses with a two punch combination.
A combination from Young does no damage.
Young stuffs the takedown.
Okabe misses with a hook.
Kenji Okabe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Young throws a combination that misses

and Okabe counters with a takedown into side control.

Young throws Okabe to one side and escapes!
Young misses with a wild combination.
Young throws a series of punches but Okabe avoids them all with ease.

Okabe fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Young sprawls well initially but Okabe persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Young regains full guard. Nicely done.
Okabe wants to stand but Young has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Young is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Okabe in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenji Okabe dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Okabe closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Young is trying to get back to full guard.
Young is in trouble now - Okabe has advanced to mount!
Young is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Young tries to reverse the position but Okabe maintains control.
Young slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Okabe prevents Young from standing back up.
Okabe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Young tries to kick Okabe off but Okabe keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Okabe wants to work for an arm triangle but Young is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Okabe seems to be working for a kimura but Young defends the submission attempt.
Okabe is thwarting Young's attempts to control the position.
Okabe moves nicely into side control.
Okabe is looking to take a break and control but Young is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Young tries to buck Okabe off but Okabe is having none of it.
Okabe wants to control but Young is keeping him busy.

Okabe tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Okabe has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Kenji Okabe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Okabe misses with a takedown attempt - Young sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Okabe shoots for a double leg takedown but Young sprawls well. He's pushed Okabe's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Okabe counters with a shoot takedown. Young fights it but they end up in guard.
Okabe wants to pass the guard but Young is keeping the position.
Okabe is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Okabe thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Young wants to stand up but Okabe is controlling him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Okabe trying to control but Young is working from the bottom.
Okabe won't allow Young to get back to his feet.
Kenji Okabe has got the better of the ground game so far.
Okabe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Young swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Young tries to bum rush Okabe with a series of wild strikes but Okabe uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
No luck for Okabe with that takedown attempt.
Frank Young has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenji Okabe.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Young slips a straight right by Okabe.
Okabe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Young but Young pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Okabe throws a jab but it's blocked by Young.

Young shoots in and bounces Okabe off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.

Okabe is looking for a triangle but Young pushes his legs off easily.

Young has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Okabe is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

The fighters circling - Okabe throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Okabe shoots in but Young avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Young leaves Okabe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Young counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Okabe throws a lazy right hand but Young sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Frank Young is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

and Okabe decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Young's guard.

Okabe shoots in for a takedown but Young shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Young throws a right hand that Okabe ducks under and follows up with a left that Okabe also avoids with ease.
Young throws a lazy right hand but Okabe sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenji Okabe dominated that fourth round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Young looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Okabe slips a jab and a cross from Young.
Okabe dives in and grabs Young's left leg, looking for a takedown. Young pushes down on Okabe's head and hops out.
Young displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Okabe throws out the jab.
Okabe might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

and Okabe counters with a shoot takedown. Young fights it but they end up in guard.

Okabe is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Okabe drops back looking for a leg! Young is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Young manages to kick Okabe off! Okabe jumps back into Young's guard.
Okabe tries to stand but Young is controlling from the bottom.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Young not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Okabe passes Young's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Young has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Okabe is working away from the top position though.
Kenji Okabe is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Okabe performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Okabe's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Young wants to get back to his feet.
Young is in trouble now - Okabe has advanced to mount!
Young is squirming around, avoiding Okabe's attempts to control the action.
Frank Young has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Okabe sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Okabe unloads with some shots from mount but Young bucks and avoids them well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kenji Okabe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Okabe winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
