Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ken Watts! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kendrell Johnson! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed right hand from Johnson misses the target. Watts lands a lovely overhand right. Johnson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Watts.

Watts swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Watts throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Johnson. Johnson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Watts manages to avoid it. The fight moves into the clinch position. Watts fails to pull guard.
Watts tries to pull guard but Johnson holds him up against the cage and eventually Watts drops back down to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Watts has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Johnson uses from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Johnson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Johnson thows a big elbow that misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Watts manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.
Watts advances position into side control! Johnson is looking to regain half guard here but Watts keeps moving and retains side control. Watts is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there. Johnson tries to improve position but can't. Watts working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Watts swings around for an armbar but Johnson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Watts's guard. Johnson is working Watts over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Watts avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Johnson throws a big right hand that misses. Johnson distracts Watts with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Johnson postures up in Watts's guard and throws a big left but Watts blocks it. Watts looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Johnson with a flurry of punches that miss. Johnson preventing the sweep. Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Watts has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though. Watts is breathing heavily. Watts is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Johnson chips away with some ground and pound. Johnson lands a couple of decent looking shots. Johnson lands a couple of elbows. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Johnson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Johnson connects with a couple of short punches. Johnson forces his way into half guard. Johnson wants to pass the guard but Watts is defending well. Johnson scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Watts is looking for a sweep. Johnson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Ground and pound from Johnson.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Watts on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Watts is staying active underneath Johnson, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Watts slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Johnson postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Johnson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Johnson postures up in Watts's guard and throws a big left but Watts blocks it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson is posturing up here but Watts has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Johnson tries to roll out but it's too tight and Johnson has to tap! Slick submission there by Watts!
