PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pointon Slavey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Brone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slavey kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is I Predict A Riot. Brone has chosen FINLANDIA by Jean Sibelius as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Pointon Slavey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Jason Brone!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Andrew Berry and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brone bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Brone controlling the position.
Slavey defending against the ground and pound.

Brone tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Slavey is looking for a sweep.
Brone wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slavey keeps working.

Brone connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Slavey some visible discomfort.
Slavey gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Brone throwing strikes here but Slavey is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Slavey holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Brone tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Slavey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brone on the ground.
Brone wants to control the pace but Slavey is squirming around nicely.

Brone swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Slavey is now in Brone's guard. A big mistake from Brone there, giving up the dominant position!
Brone has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Brone scoring well with a low kick there.
Brone shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Slavey pinned against the cage. Slavey gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Brone drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Brone thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Brone is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Brone missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Brone thows a big elbow that misses.
Brone lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Brone stands and throws Slavey's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Brone is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Slavey knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Slavey stops Brone from passing to mount.
The referee asks Brone politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Brone prefers to stall for the moment though.

Brone is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Slavey is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Brone lands a glancing blow to the side of Slavey's head.

Slavey on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Brone moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Brone ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Brone closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brone lands in his opponent's guard.
Slavey avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Brone trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slavey controls Brone momentarily but Brone frees himself.
Brone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slavey swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Slavey keeping moving, preventing Brone from controlling successfully.
Broneis looking to pass into half guard but Slavey pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Slavey is in guard.
Brone looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Slavey puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Brone trying to hold on to Slavey's head to control him but Slavey postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Brone throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Brone showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Slavey takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
A swing and a miss from Slavey.
Brone lands with a straight right. Slavey didn't see that one coming.
The crowd cheers as Slavey lands an impressive looking overhand right. Brone doesn't seem phased though.


It looks like Jason Brone has been cut.
An inside leg kick lands from Brone.
Brone fails to land with a series of punches.
Brone shoots for a double leg takedown but Slavey sprawls well. He's pushed Brone's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Brone looks to land a combination but Slavey avoids it well.
Slavey walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Brone takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Slavey dodges the punch combination from Brone.
Slavey takes one to the chin there.
Jason Brone is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Brone shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Slavey but Slavey pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Slavey is looking to score with low kicks.
Brone uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Slavey.
Brone catches Slavey with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Brone connects with a high kick.

Slavey gets caught flat footed, as Brone shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Slavey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Brone trying to control the position from guard on top but Slavey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Brone throwing strikes from guard but Slavey blocks nicely.

Brone postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Slavey is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Brone, into his guard.
Brone is adopting a defensive guard.
Pointon Slavey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Brone not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Brone looking for a sweep. Not yet Brone, not yet.

Brone has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Slavey doesn't defend quickly enough and Brone has managed to lock this one up! Can Slavey escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Brone on a fantastic submission victory.
