PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jason Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Stackhouse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savage comes to the cage accompanied by "Killing In The Name Of" by Rage Against the Machine. Stackhouse has chosen Papercut by Linkin Park as his entrance music. Jason Savage had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Savage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tony Stackhouse!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stackhouse fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Stackhouse leaves Savage with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Savage counters with a takedown into side control.
Savage wants to control but Stackhouse is keeping him busy.

Savage tries for a kimura but Stackhouse is defending well.

Savage thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stackhouse can't do much from the bottom here.
Savage advances to full mount.
Stackhouse really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Savage. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Savage is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Stackhouse to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Stackhouse shrugs it off.

Savage has hold of Stackhouse's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stackhouse manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stackhouse can do anything to dispel that myth.

and Savage counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Savage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Stackhouse shoots for a takedown but Savage saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Stackhouse throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Savage's waist but Savage gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stackhouse off to one side.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Savage accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Savage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stackhouse swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Savage here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Horrible takedown by Stackhouse or perhaps it was just good defense by Savage which made him look bad.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Savage fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Stackhouse avoids it really well and circles away.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
