Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Blake Barnes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Rogers! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rogers swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Barnes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rogers defends it nicely. Rogers just misses with a punch to the body.
Barnes has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Rogers rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Barnes moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Rogers throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Barnes sees it coming and avoids it easily. Rogers closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Rogers thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Barnes tries to roll over but Rogers keeps him under control. Barnes is staying active underneath Rogers, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Barnes misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Barnes moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Barnes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Rogers loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rogers wants to pass the guard but Barnes is keeping the position. Rogers stopping the sweep attempt from Barnes.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Rogers looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Rogers ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Rogers scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Nice uppercut there from Rogers. Barnes looks for a takedown but Rogers sprawls well. Rogers misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Rogers throws a right hand that Barnes ducks under and follows up with a left that Barnes also avoids with ease.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rogers is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Barnes's half guard. Rogers wants to pass the guard but Barnes is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barnes blocking the ground and pound attempt from Rogers. Barnes is trying to stand up here but Rogers is controlling him well. Rogers wants to work for an arm triangle but Barnes is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Barnes tries to roll over but Rogers keeps him under control. Barnes is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rogers scores with a couple of nice shots. Barnes has hold of Rogers's hands but Rogers slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Barnes avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rogers.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barnes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rogers's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rogers's back! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Barnes looking to break Rogers's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Rogers remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Barnes will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Barnes is breathing heavily. Rogers avoids the strikes from Barnes. Barnes gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes. Barnes is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Rogers has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Rogers just looking to survive in the bad position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barnes has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Rogers has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Barnes looking for the RNC. Barnes has the hooks in. Rogers is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jack Rogers dominated that round. That's time! Barnes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Rogers moves out of range of the body kick from Barnes.
Rogers misses with a wild body shot. Rogers throws a right and a left that Barnes avoids nicely. Rogers throws a series of punches but Barnes moves out of range. Rogers connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Rogers catches Barnes with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Rogers is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Barnes rather than just go for the knockout. No luck with that takedown attempt from Rogers. Barnes looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Rogers moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Rogers ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Rogers throws a push kick but Barnes slaps the foot to one side. A punch combination from Rogers misses. Barnes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rogers pinned against the cage. Rogers gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rogers misses the shot to the body. Rogers slaps away a takedown attempt from Barnes, before circling back to the center of the mat. Barnes has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Barnes is rocked! Barnes loses concentration momentarily and Rogers pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Barnes crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Rogers finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jack Rogers!
