The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
hughes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gailfus's waist but Gailfus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing hughes off to one side.
Gailfus looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Horrible takedown by hughes or perhaps it was just good defense by Gailfus which made him look bad.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

hughes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Gailfus counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Gailfus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. hughes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
hughes pulls Gailfus in close to his closed guard and prevents Gailfus from doing any damage or advancing position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

hughes drops back looking for a leg! Gailfus is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gailfus manages to kick hughes off! hughes jumps back into Gailfus's guard.

hughes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gailfus can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gailfus decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
