Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Franks Beans! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinya Kawajiri! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kawajiri avoids a punch combination nicely.
Beans fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kawajiri manages to avoid it. Beans misses with a body shot.
Kawajiri bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Kawajiri showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Beans.
Kawajiri shoots in for a double leg but Beans sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. A swing and a miss from Beans. Beans will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kawajiri shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kawajiri showed some decent athleticism there. Beans might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Beans wants to improve his position but Kawajiri is controlling well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kawajiri seems to be looking for submissions.
Kawajiri prevents Beans from improving his position. Kawajiri is looking for a kimura but Beans is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kawajiri to get the leverage. Kawajiri is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
The fighters are battling for position here. Beans manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Beans has his foot on Kawajiri's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kawajiri works his way back into a safe position though. Kawajiri wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Beans's closed guard. He's half up but Beans has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Beans pivots and extends the arm, Kawajiri falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Beans! Well done that man!
