3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jose Garciaz! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Dean Styles and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Leao da Ilha feints and as Garciaz raises his hands in defense, Leao da Ilha changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Leao da Ilha has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Leao da Ilha sitting in guard, not really doing much. Leao da Ilha wants to control from the top but Garciaz keeps moving. Leao da Ilha preventing the sweep. Leao da Ilha trying to control but Garciaz is working from the bottom. Garciaz is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Garciaz wants to sweep here but Leao da Ilha controlling him for the moment. Garciaz keeping moving, preventing Leao da Ilha from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Leao da Ilha looking to sit in guard and control but Garciaz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Garciaz throwing strikes from guard but Leao da Ilha blocks nicely. Leao da Ilha is looking for a triangle but Garciaz pushes his legs off easily.
Leao da Ilha can't keep his opponent in guard - Garciaz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Garciaz thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Garciaz is looking to take a break and control but Leao da Ilha is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Garciaz thows a huge punch but Leao da Ilha dodges it nicely.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Leao da Ilha keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Ground and pound from Garciaz. Leao da Ilha is not content to let Garciaz control the position. Leao da Ilha is looking to improve his position.
Leao da Ilha could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Garciaz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Leao da Ilha on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Leao da Ilha tries to get out of the position. Garciaz is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Leao da Ilha misses with some strikes from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garciaz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Leao da Ilha's head. Leao da Ilha looking for submissions off his back. Garciaz is looking to take a break and control but Leao da Ilha is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Garciaz lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Leao da Ilha trying to control but Garciaz postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Leao da Ilha is staying active underneath Garciaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Garciaz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Leao da Ilha is looking for a sweep. Garciaz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Leao da Ilha is staying active underneath Garciaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Leao da Ilha wants to control but Garciaz is keeping busy.
Garciaz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Garciaz has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Leao da Ilha is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

It looks like Igor Leao da Ilha has been cut. Poor strikes thrown by Garciaz there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Garciaz is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Leao da Ilha can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Garciaz lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Igor Leao da Ilha's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Leao da Ilha will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Leao da Ilha gets caught flat footed, as Garciaz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Jose Garciaz has got the better of the ground game so far. Garciaz working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Jeez, Igor Leao da Ilha's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
