Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Hathaway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrew Alves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, John Hathaway! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Sam Margolis and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by Alves or perhaps it was just good defense by Hathaway which made him look bad. Alves closes the distance and clinches up with Hathaway, looking for a takedown. Alves pushes Hathaway against the cage but Hathaway circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Hathaway lands with an overhand left. Hathaway tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alves sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hathaway somewhat. Alves doesn't succeed with the takedown and Hathaway counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hathaway wants to clinch. Alves doesn't succeed with the takedown and Hathaway counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Hathaway is looking for a kimura here.
Hathaway is looking to take a break and control but Alves is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Alves tries to roll over but Hathaway keeps him under control. Alves really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Hathaway looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Alves wants to sweep here but Hathaway controlling him for the moment. Alves keeping full guard, as Hathaway tries to pass. Hathaway wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving. Alves tries to land a sweep but no joy. Alves trying to keep a closed guard but Hathaway is proving a slippery customer.
Alves wants to sweep but no luck. Alves manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hathaway manages to get himself to full guard.
Alves is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hathaway is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hathaway has escaped and now he's on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Alves looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Alves will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Hathaway tries to free his leg and advance position but Alves is retaining full guard. Hathaway preventing the sweep. Hathaway trying to control the position from guard on top but Alves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Alves is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hathaway is aware though and is defending well. Alves is breathing heavily. Alves is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hathaway tries for a takedown but Alves circles away easily and Alves counters with a single leg into guard. Hathaway didn't expect that. Hathaway had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alves defends it easily. Alves thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hathaway is looking for a triangle but Alves pushes his legs off easily.
Alves drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Alves jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Alves is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Alves drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hathaway looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hathaway looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hathaway! Alves is not content to let Hathaway control the position. Hathaway is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Alves has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alves manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Hathaway trying to pass the guard but Alves defending well. Alves slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Alves manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Alves looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Alves working for a guillotine from mount but Hathaway is in no mood to give up. Alves is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hathaway is surviving well by controlling Alves's body position as best he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Andrew Alves dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Alves fails with the takedown and Hathaway counters with a takedown into side control. Alves tries to improve position but can't. Hathaway tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hathaway has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Alves tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hathaway wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Alves gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Hathaway content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. The fighters are battling for position here. Alves manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hathaway preventing the sweep. Hathaway is breathing heavily. Hathaway pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Alves is keeping the position for now. Alves looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Alves manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hathaway manages to get himself to full guard.
Alves drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Hathaway dives on top into guard. Hathaway is pushing down on Alves's leg trying to pass to half guard. Alves is fighting to maintain full guard but Hathaway has managed to sneak the leg through. Hathaway prevents Alves from improving his position. Alves is trying to maintain the position but Hathaway is very close to passing his half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hathaway is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Alves wants to improve his position but Hathaway is controlling well.
Alves gets back to full guard.

That could spell trouble for Hathaway! Alves is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hathaway is surviving well by controlling Alves's body position as best he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hathaway is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Alves has taken his back!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hathaway won't enjoy being in this position. Alves looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Hathaway is tapping - it's over boys! Alves picks up the submission victory!
