PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ready Go (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benoit Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Ready Go!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Benoit Kong!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Andrew Berry and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kong throws a jab but it's blocked by Go.
Nice sprawl there from Kong as Go shoots in.
Kong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kong throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kong is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Go.
Kong throws an overhand right that lands on Go's shoulder, as Go tries to avoid the shot.

Go shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kong manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kong wants to sweep here but Go controlling him for the moment.
Kong has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Go trying to control the position from guard on top but Kong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Go won't allow Kong to sweep him here.
Go is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Go has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Go pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kong is keeping the position for now.

Kong has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Go might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Go sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Go trying to control but Kong is working from the bottom.
Kong seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Kong is trying to control the position but Go postures up.
Kong pulls Go in close to his closed guard and prevents Go from doing any damage or advancing position.
Kong is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Go avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kong manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kong prevents Go from getting the reversal.
Go really wants to buck Kong off and get back to his feet.
Kong can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Go is looking to escape.

Kong moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Go has worked his arm free - good work by Go!
Go wants to get back to his feet but Kong drags him back down.

Kong is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Go is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kong tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Go bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Kong throws out a loose jab but Go uses good head movement to avoid it.
Go throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Go is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kong sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kong jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kong looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kong lands a slapping body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Go. Kong does a little dance to reset his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Benoit Kong will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Kong will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kong stuffs the takedown.
Go uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kong.
Go is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kong sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kong misses with a double jab.
Go shoots in for a takedown but Kong shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Go shoots in but no luck this time.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kong is on top in guard.
Kong looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Go wants to sweep but no luck.
Go is looking to stand up but Kong isn't so interested in that idea.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kong with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kong trying to control the position from guard on top but Go is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Go pushes Kong off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Kong closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like Ready Go has been cut.
Kong misses with a few strikes there.
Go keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kong.

Go drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Go stopping the sweep attempt from Kong.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kong is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Kong pulls Go in close to his closed guard and prevents Go from doing any damage or advancing position.
Go working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kong's head.
Kong looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Go wants to pass the guard but Kong is keeping the position.
Go looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kong trying to control the position.
Go throws a big right hand that misses.
Kong is trying to control the position from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Go scores a takedown into full mount!
Kong tries to lock up and control but Go gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Go wants to control the pace but Kong is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Benoit Kong will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Ready Go's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Kong takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Kong lands with a good body shot.
Go shoots in but Kong avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Go blocks a head kick by Kong.
Kong tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Go was well out of range. Poor timing from Kong.
Kong dips to his left and cracks Go with an uppercut!
Kong throws a shot from downtown. Go moves away and avoids it.

Kong gets caught flat footed, as Go shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Kong controls Go momentarily but Go frees himself.
Go in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Go sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kong looking to hit a scissor sweep but Go is one step ahead there.
Kong is trying to keep Go in close.
Kong is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Go slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kong lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Go!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kong goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Go turns into him and now he's in Kong's guard.
Kong takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Go showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Go postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Go stays in close to Kong's body and controls the position.
Go won't allow Kong to sweep him here.
Kong not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Go trying to control but Kong is working from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kong misses with a looping left.
Go shoots in for a double leg but Kong sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Go shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Go was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Go lands a big shot there that rocks Kong but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Kong wants to hold on but Go pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Go trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Kong is trying desperately to improve position.
Kong takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Go controlling the pace for now.
Go trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Ready Go has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kong sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ready Go showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kong has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
