Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hank Smoody!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Merlinius Powers!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smoody shoots in for a takedown but Powers shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Powers is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Powers lands with a nice combination. Smoody backs away looking to recover.
Smoody gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Powers.
Smoody takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Smoody slips a jab and a cross from Powers.
Smoody cracks Powers with a good jab.
Powers lands with a hook. Smoody tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Smoody takes one to the side of the head.
Powers lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smoody is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Powers.
Smoody walks into a jab.
Powers lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Smoody looks to land a left hand but Powers moved out of range nicely.
Smoody has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Powers finds it's way round the side to connect with Smoody's head.
Decent striking displayed by Powers there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smoody wants to clinch up but Powers keeps it at a distance.
Smoody shoots in for a takedown but Powers shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Smoody takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Nice shot by Powers.
Powers fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Smoody checks it well.
Powers slaps away a takedown attempt from Smoody, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hank Smoody. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smoody is breathing heavily.
A shot to de liver by Powers. Beautiful body shot.
Powers lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Merlinius Powers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smoody takes one on the chin but seems OK.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Powers rushes Smoody with punches - Smoody moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Smoody goes down! Powers follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Merlinius Powers!
