PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Navas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maxim Scarface (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maxim Scarface told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scarface throws a series of punches but Navas moves out of range.
Navas looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Navas stalks Scarface and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Scarface's face. Scarface staggers backwards, shaken.

Scarface shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Scarface showed some decent athleticism there.
Scarface wants to pass the guard but Navas is defending well.
Scarface trying to control the pace.

Scarface landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Scarface decides to stand and escape the position.

Navas gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Scarface to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Scarface not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Scarface wants to pass the guard but Navas is keeping the position.
Scarface is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scarface postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Navas might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Scarface is in close to Navas's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Scarface stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Navas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Navas pushes Scarface off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Navas is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Scarface's half guard.

Scarface sneaks out the side door and pushes Navas away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Scarface moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Navas has worked his arm free - good work by Navas!
Scarface remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Scarface shoots in and bounces Navas off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Scarface wants to control from the top but Navas keeps moving.

Scarface drops back, looking for a kneebar! Navas looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Navas looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Navas!

Navas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Scarface keeps working.
Scarface sneaks back into half guard.

Maxim Scarface showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Navas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Scarface tries to score a power double leg takedown but Navas sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Scarface somewhat.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Scarface wants to take his opponent's back but Navas doesn't allow it.

Scarface jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Navas is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Navas and Scarface has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Scarface is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Navas's shoulder. That is not cool.

Scarface stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Scarface closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Navas did well to prevent Scarface getting side control.

Scarface seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Navas is trying to control but can't.
Navas is looking to escape.
Scarface prevents Navas from improving his position.

Scarface looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Scarface tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Scarface has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Navas is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Scarface asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Navas on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Scarface landing a few strikes.
Scarface looks up at the clock and then as Navas takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Scarface smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Scarface is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Navas is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Navas throws a series of punches but Scarface avoids them all with ease.
Jesus Navas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Maxim Scarface is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

I've got Scarface winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
