Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Clive Gant! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gant throws a low kick but Tanabe avoids it. Clive Gant seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Tanabe displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gant. Gant fails with a takedown attempt. Gant tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tanabe paws at him with a jab and circles away. Tanabe scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Gant closes the distance and clinches up with Tanabe, looking for a takedown. Gant pushes Tanabe against the cage but Tanabe circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clive Gant. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gant misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Tanabe will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gant tries to clinch up but Tanabe circles away and keeps his distance. Tanabe scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
It looks like Clive Gant has been cut. Gant closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Tanabe managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Gant.
Gant wants to control but Tanabe is keeping him busy. Gant tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gant has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Gant working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gant looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Gant throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Tanabe works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Tanabe controlling the position for now. Gant is keen to just control but Tanabe is a slippery customer. Gant has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Gant shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tanabe as he jumps to the side. Nice takedown defense from Tanabe. No joy for Gant on that attempt. Gant throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Nice takedown defense from Tanabe. No joy for Gant on that attempt. Tanabe defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gant.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. No luck with that takedown attempt from Gant. Tanabe tries to bum rush Gant with a series of wild strikes but Gant uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Tanabe slaps away a takedown attempt from Gant, before circling back to the center of the mat. Gant tries to clinch up but Tanabe circles away and keeps his distance. Kiyoshi Tanabe is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Gant wants to clinch. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. No luck with that takedown attempt from Gant. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Tanabe counters with a lovely shot to the body. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gant. Gant keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Gant moves in looking to clinch but Tanabe pushes him off. Gant shoots and misses letting Tanabe counter with a right hand. Kiyoshi Tanabe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Gant shoots for a double leg takedown but Tanabe sprawls well. He's pushed Gant's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Tanabe will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tanabe throws a right hand that Gant ducks under and follows up with a left that Gant also avoids with ease.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tanabe's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Tanabe duly obliges.
Gant is rocked! Gant feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Tanabe's calf. Tanabe misses with a double jab.
Gant shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tanabe defends it nicely. Gant tries for a takedown but Tanabe circles away easily and Tanabe cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Gant fails with the takedown and Tanabe counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Gant has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. No luck with that takedown attempt from Gant. Gant doesn't manage to clinch there - Tanabe circles away.
Tanabe throws a nice looking combination but Gant bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Gant tries to clinch but Tanabe is having none of it. Gant tries to land a leg kick but Tanabe saw it coming and moves away.
Tanabe dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Gant shoots and misses and Tanabe connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. A clash of legs there as Tanabe blocks the low kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gant tries to clinch but fails miserably letting Tanabe counter with a right hand. Gant with a poor takedown and Gant takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Tanabe lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Tanabe connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Gant tumbling to the canvas! Tanabe pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Gant was done - good stoppage!
