PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Phelan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terrence Cody (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phelan has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Mike Phelan had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Phelan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Terrence Cody!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phelan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Phelan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Phelan stuffs the takedown.

Phelan tries to close the distance and clinch but Cody swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cody has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Cody chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Phelan can pounce on him.
Phelan lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Cody throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Phelan was covering up waiting for the punch and Cody finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Cody throws a strike but Phelan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Phelan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Cody closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Cody with the ground and pound but Phelan uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Cody won't allow Phelan to get back to his feet.
Cody throws and elbow that misses. Phelan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cody's guard. Nice move by Phelan!
Cody wants to sweep but no luck.
Cody thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Phelan is looking to stand up but Cody won't let him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cody keeps the fight on the outside.

Cody shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Phelan is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Phelan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Phelan tries to get out of the position.
Phelan is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Cody lands a big shot there that rocks Phelan but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Cody thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Phelan to regain full guard.

Phelan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Phelan moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Mike Phelan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Cody decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Nice strikes from Cody there.
Cody seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Cody thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Phelan's head.
Cody thows a huge punch but Phelan dodges it nicely.
Cody winds up and cracks Phelan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Cody thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Terrence Cody comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cody has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
