Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rodney Gailfus! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gailfus plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Gailfus tries to clinch up but Sanchez circles away and keeps his distance. Sanchez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Sanchez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Sanchez prevents Gailfus from improving his position. Sanchez throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Sanchez is pressing down on Gailfus's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gailfus is holding on for now. Sanchez controlling the action here. Gailfus is trying to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez thows a huge punch but Gailfus dodges it nicely.
Gailfus is trying to control but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gailfus can do anything to dispel that myth. Sanchez is taking a breather. Gailfus says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Gailfus misses with a takedown and Sanchez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gailfus's guard. Sanchez sitting in guard here, content to control. Sanchez trying to control the position from guard on top but Gailfus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sanchez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez landing some decent shots from guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gailfus is on top in guard.
Gailfus pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sanchez is keeping the position for now. Sanchez is pulling down on Gailfus's head to control his posture. Gailfus controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gailfus trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sanchez's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gailfus looks gassed! Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Gailfus from controlling successfully. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Sanchez wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Sanchez tries to land a sweep but no joy. Sanchez throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Sanchez is adopting a defensive guard. Gailfus stopping the sweep attempt from Sanchez.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Sanchez pulls Gailfus in close to prevent any damage. Sanchez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gailfus is one step ahead there.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Sanchez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown so Gailfus counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jose Sanchez dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Sanchez shoots for a takedown but Gailfus saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Sanchez shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gailfus manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Gailfus being controlled here, momentarily. Gailfus looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Sanchez connects with a couple of short punches. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Sanchez with a flurry of punches that miss. Gailfus keeping moving, preventing Sanchez from controlling successfully. Sanchez with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gailfus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Sanchez content to stall in guard here. Gailfus looking for a sweep. Not yet Gailfus, not yet. Sanchez lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Sanchez controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Gailfus wants to sweep but no luck. Sanchez scoring with some ground and pound. Gailfus being controlled here, momentarily. Gailfus looking for a sweep. Not yet Gailfus, not yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanchez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Sanchez postures up in Gailfus's guard and throws a big left but Gailfus blocks it. Gailfus is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sanchez defends well. Sanchez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Sanchez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Jose Sanchez just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Gailfus stuffs the takedown attempt from Sanchez. Sanchez gets slowly back to his feet. Sanchez keeps the fight on the outside. Sanchez closes the distance and clinches up with Gailfus, looking for a takedown. Sanchez pushes Gailfus against the cage but Gailfus circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Sanchez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sanchez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Jose Sanchez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Sanchez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gailfus does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jose Sanchez dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Gailfus manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Gailfus managing to control the position. Sanchez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez wants to control from the top but Gailfus keeps moving. Sanchez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gailfus is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Gailfus tries to land a sweep but no joy. Gailfus is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Sanchez showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Sanchez trying to control the position from guard on top but Gailfus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gailfus wants to hold on but Sanchez pushes him away. Sanchez sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Sanchez prevents Gailfus from getting the reversal. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Sanchez controlling his opponent. Sanchez dominating with strikes here. Sanchez controlling from mount. Sanchez avoids the attempt from Gailfus to control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gailfus can't escape the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Jose Sanchez showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sanchez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
