PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Knockout Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Knockout Power!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jason Mason!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mason closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mason lands in his opponent's guard.

Mason stands up from Power's guard - Mason perhaps looking for a knockout.
Mason swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Mason shoots in for a takedown but Power shows good takedown defense.

Power feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mason wants to get back to his feet but Power is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mason looks gassed!
Power wanted to stand there but Mason had control of the position.

Mason is working an open guard so Power takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Power throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
No luck for Power with that takedown attempt.
Mason doesn't manage to clinch there - Power circles away.
Power fails with the takedown
and Mason counters with a body kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Power tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mason paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mason has his takedown stuffed

and Power counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Power winds up and cracks Mason with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Mason wants to get back to his feet.
Power has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mason is looking to improve his position.
Mason is refusing to be controlled, as Power sits in half guard.

Mason pushes Power off and gets back to his feet.
Power misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Knockout Power. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mason checks the leg kick nicely there.

Power gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mason tries to control but Power manages to take his back.

Power struggling to keep hold of the position.
Mason tries to roll but Power sticks to his back.
I would not like to be Mason right now.
Mason has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Power is working the ground and pound. Can Mason escape?

Power tries to get the hooks in deep but Mason pushed the leg off.
Mason breaks Power's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mason tries to stand but Power is controlling from the bottom.

Power is trying to control the position but Mason postures up.
Power might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mason in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Power misses with a takedown

and Mason counters with a takedown into side control.

Mason is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Power knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mason throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

Mason decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Power closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Mason is trying to improve his position.
Mason gets back to half guard.
Mason is trying to stand back up but Power is controlling him

Mason tries to get to full guard but Power has control of the leg.
Mason wants to control but Power is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Power prevents Mason from getting back to his feet.
Mason controls Power momentarily but Power frees himself.
Power won't allow Mason to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Mason connects with a high kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mason circles away from the clinch attempt

and Mason counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Mason with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jason Mason will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Mason has taken the fight to the clinch.
Power can't get the takedown.
Power is looking to control Mason's arms but Mason gets an underhook and turns him. Now Power has his back to the cage.
Mason tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Power just stands there and leans against the cage.
Mason lands a body punch in the clinch.
Power tries to pull guard but Mason won't allow it.
Power tries to pull guard but Mason holds him up against the cage and eventually Power drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Knockout Power. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mason breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mason.
Power keeps the fight on the outside.
Horrible takedown by Power or perhaps it was just good defense by Mason which made him look bad.

Mason closes the distance and clinches.
Power looking for a takedown.
Power takes an elbow to the temple.
Mason prevents the takedown attempt.
Power is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mason pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Knees in the clinch landing for Mason.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mason pulls guard effortlessly.
Power scoring with punches to the head and body.
Power trying to control but Mason is working from the bottom.
Knockout Power overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Power is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mason is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Power looking to pass the guard.
Power scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Power trying to control but Mason is working from the bottom.
Power showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Mason is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Power lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Power wants to control from the top but Mason keeps moving.
Power is really struggling to control Mason but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Power prevents Mason from getting back to his feet.
Power lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Power has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mason is proving hard to escape from.

Mason uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Mason tries to clinch there but Power circles away.
Mason tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Power paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mason misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Mason throws a nice outside leg kick.
Mason doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Power counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mason!
Power can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mason is looking to escape.
Mason manages to regain half guard. Good work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Power lands a nice short elbow.
Mason is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Power decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Power shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Mason counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Power is looking to control Mason's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Power avoid being mounted?

Power pushes Mason off and gets back to his feet.
Mason fails with an attempt to clinch.
Power moves in looking to clinch but Mason pushes him off.
Good shot there by Power.
Power lands a glancing blow to the side of Mason's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Power lands with a shot to the body.

No luck for Power with that takedown attempt.
Power fails to land the takedown.
Power darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Mason looks to clinch
letting Power counter with a right hand.
Power throws a head kick but Mason moves out of range.
Mason tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mason misses with a takedown attempt
and Power counters with a head kick.
Power shoots and misses
and Mason counters with a nice body kick.
Power fails in his attempt to clinch.
Power has his takedown stuffed

and Mason counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Mason gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mason rushes Power and presses him up against the cage.
Mason looking to stall.
Mason has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Power avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Mason prevents Power from breaking the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jason Mason will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Power throws a lazy head kick

and Mason counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Mason is trying to trip Power. He has hold of a leg but Power is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mason persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Power is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Power scores with a short punch from the bottom.
Power striking off his back but it's not causing Mason any problems.

Power working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mason doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mason manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mason is posturing up here but Power has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Mason tries to roll out but it's too tight and Mason has to tap! Slick submission there by Power!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Knockout Power!
