Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Blake Cutting! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Velasquez! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Velasquez closes the distance and lands a one-two.
It looks like Blake Cutting has been cut. Velasquez fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. A left lands for Velasquez. Velasquez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cutting. Velasquez throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cutting is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Cutting shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cutting controlling the action here. Velasquez is staying active underneath Cutting, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Cutting is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Cutting won't allow Velasquez to get back to his feet. Cutting postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Cutting in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Velasquez manages to escape and get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cutting looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Velasquez is fending him off so far but Cutting persists. Nope, Velasquez circles away and we're back to standing. Cutting will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Blake Cutting. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cutting is breathing heavily. Velasquez throws a shot to the body.
Velasquez displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. A jab-cross combination lands for Velasquez and sends Cutting crashing to the mat! Velasquez follows him down to the mat - Cutting regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!
Cutting is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Velasquez wants to stand up but Cutting has a hold of him and won't allow it. Velasquez stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. It's a brutal combination of punches from Velasquez! Cutting is backing up but he can't get away as Velasquez lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Cutting and ends the fight. Great knockout.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Mark Velasquez!
