Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jacare Souza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Krac Wanov! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Souza shoots for a double leg takedown but Wanov sprawls well. He's pushed Souza's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Souza tries a head kick but it misses.
Souza lands a head kick. Wanov smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Wanov keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Souza throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Souza misses with a hook. Wanov ducked under it nicely. Souza cracks Wanov with a right hand to the side of the head. Wanov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Souza was well out of range. Poor timing from Wanov. Souza throws a chopping leg kick but Wanov manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Souza looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Souza pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A looping hook to the body misses from Wanov. Souza does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Souza looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Souza tries a head kick but it misses.
Wanov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Souza was well out of range. Poor timing from Wanov. Wanov fails to land with a series of punches.
Souza tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Wanov throws an overhand right that lands on Souza's shoulder, as Souza tries to avoid the shot. Wanov throws a hook but Souza avoids it easily. Souza looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Jacare Souza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Souza missing with a left hand there. Wanov was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Souza misses with a body kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Souza swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Wanov ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Wanov leaves Souza with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jacare Souza. That's going to take a lot out of him. Souza throws a head kick but Wanov moves out of range.
Souza tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Wanov is able to avoid easily. Souza tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wanov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Souza somewhat. Souza blocks a jab. Wanov drives through with a takedown into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wanov slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wanov cracks Souza with an elbow. That is naaassty. Wanov throwing shots but missing, from side control. Wanov lands a decent elbow from side control. Souza is working to avoid the ground and pound but Wanov connects with a decent elbow. Wanov working away. Wanov looks up at the clock and then as Souza takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Wanov smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Wanov landing a few strikes. Wanov grinds an elbow into Souza's temple. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wanov working the head with strikes. Souza takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Wanov landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. This has been an exciting period of action! Souza is working to avoid the ground and pound but Wanov connects with a decent elbow. Souza tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Souza manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Souza looks to land a strike but Wanov avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Souza prevents Wanov from getting back to his feet. Wanov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Souza wants to control from the top but Wanov keeps moving. Souza loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Wanov keeping full guard, as Souza tries to pass. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Krac Wanov dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Souza misses with a hook. Wanov ducked under it nicely. A leg kick checked by Wanov. Souza tries for a takedown but Wanov circles away easily and Wanov counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Wanov changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Souza. Wanov shrugs it off though. Souza feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Wanov's calf. Wanov misses with a jab, cross combination.
Wanov blocks a low kick nicely. Souza pulls out of a head kick attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Souza throws a head kick that half lands.
It looks like Krac Wanov has been cut. Souza avoids a punch combination nicely.
Wanov loads up on a big right hand but Souza slips the punch. Wanov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Souza's guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Wanov postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Souza has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Souza wants to sweep but no luck. Souza is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Wanov is aware though and is defending well. Wanov passes Souza's left leg - he's now in half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wanov in particular looking to stall. Wanov trying to control the action but Souza is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wanov is stalling here. Souza is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Wanov seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Souza has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Souza is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wanov has escaped the position, nice work there. Souza is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Wanov is trying to escape and Souza transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Wanov is forced to tap! Nice work there by Souza! Very nice indeed!
