PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Red Murder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Locke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Red Murder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Locke!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murder swinging wildly here.
Murder fails to land with a series of punches.

Murder drops Locke with a left and a right! Oh, Locke is hurt - Murder dives into side control looking to finish!


Locke is rocked!


It looks like John Locke has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Murder working away.
Locke is still in real trouble! Can Murder finish him?
Locke seems to have recovered his senses.
Locke is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Well, if Murder is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Locke has one foot on Murder's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Locke has eaten all the pies!
Murder throws a right hand that Locke ducks under and follows up with a left that Locke also avoids with ease.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Locke is looking to clinch.
Locke shoots for a double leg takedown but Murder sprawls well. He's pushed Locke's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Murder swinging wildly here.
Murder throws a combination. Locke tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Murder swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Murder throws a series of punches but Locke avoids them all with ease.
Murder is breathing heavily.
Locke avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Locke fails with a takedown attempt.
Murder fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Locke on the side of the head.
Locke misses with a takedown attempt - Murder sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Red Murder has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Locke.

Murder scores with a three punch combo!
Red Murder seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Locke gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Murder lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Murder lands a nice shot that snaps Locke's head back.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Locke.
Murder scores with a one two! Locke had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Locke bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Locke fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Murder looks to land a combination but Locke avoids it well.

Locke shoots in and bounces Murder off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Locke is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Murder is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Murder has escaped and now he's on top!

Locke tries to strike from the bottom.
Murder not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Locke is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Murder is aware though and is defending well.
Murder is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Locke looking for subs off his back but Murder has passed one foot through into half guard.
Murder stops Locke from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on John Locke's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Locke shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Murder is trying to defend but Locke finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Locke is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Locke wants to free his trapped foot but Murder is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Murder is trying to stand back up but Locke is controlling him

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Locke drops back looking for a leg! Murder is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Murder manages to kick Locke off! Locke jumps back into Murder's guard.
Murder is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Murder is trying to control the action in half guard but Locke is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Locke wants to control but Murder is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Murder landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Locke looks like he's trying to stand up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Murder lands a nice short elbow.
Murder seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Locke does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Locke is trying to control but can't.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Murder throws a series of strikes that have Locke backpedaling.
Murder is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Locke takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Murder is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Locke shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Locke drops back, looking for a kneebar! Murder looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Murder looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Murder!

Locke is trying to control Murder's posture but Murder avoids it.
Murder working the body and head with strikes.
Murder will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

You can see the frustration on Locke's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Locke shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Murder as he avoids it easily.
Murder throws an overhand right that lands on Locke's shoulder, as Locke tries to avoid the shot.
Murder throws the left hand but Locke avoids the punch easily.
Murder is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Locke gets a takedown into half guard.

Locke wants to work for an arm triangle but Murder is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Locke is working for a submission of some sort.
Locke tries to pass to full mount but Murder defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Locke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Locke moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Murder misses with a hook.
Locke ducks under a wild hook from Murder.
Murder misses the jab.
Nice shot by Murder.
Locke shoots in and drives through. Murder sprawls well.
Locke fails with a takedown attempt.
Red Murder is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Locke closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Murder swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Locke throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Murder was covering up waiting for the punch and Locke finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Locke drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Murder manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Locke has Murder in his guard.

Murder with a flurry of punches that miss.

Murder got a little sloppy there for a moment and Locke has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Murder has managed to get both his arms back between Locke's legs - danger averted.

Murder is looking to work some ground and pound but Locke has wrist control.

Locke is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Locke throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Murder escapes and throws Locke's legs to the side, diving into side control!
You can see the frustration on Locke's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Murder tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Murder has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Locke tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Murder wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Locke is trying to control Murder's posture but Murder avoids it.
Locke manages to work his way to half guard, despite Murder's best efforts.

Locke is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Murder pulls his head out easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Locke tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Murder throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Murder misses with a looping right.
Murder misses with a wild combination.

Locke feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Murder is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Locke defends well.

Locke drops back looking for a leg! Murder is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Murder manages to kick Locke off! Locke jumps back into Murder's guard.

Murder looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Locke comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Locke has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
