Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phal Um (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phal Um has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phal Um!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson doesn't manage to clinch there - Um circles away.
Jackson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Um scores with a crisp jab that stopped Jackson in his tracks.
Um lands a right hook to the body.

Um decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Um in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Um is thwarting Jackson's attempts to control the position.
Well, if Um is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Um working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Jackson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Um performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Um has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Phal Um just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Jackson scoring well with a low kick there.
Justin Jackson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Um misses with an uppercut.
Jackson wants to clinch.
Jackson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Jackson moves into the clinch successfully.
A short right from Um.
Good body shot from Jackson.
Jackson stops a takedown attempt from Um.
A short left from Um.
Jackson using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.

Um breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch but Um swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Um connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Jackson momentarily.
Um fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Um lands the left hand.
Um throws a jab when Jackson was well out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jackson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Um looks to throw the jab but Jackson is out of range.
Um ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Jackson avoids the body shot from Um.
Jackson looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Jackson tries to clinch but Um moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phal Um dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Um misses with a few strikes there.
Um circles away from the clinch attempt.
A chopping leg kick lands by Jackson.
Um scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Um throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jackson's waist but Jackson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Um off to one side.
Jackson tries to clinch up.
Jackson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jackson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jackson tries to clinch but Um is having none of it.
Jackson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Um.
Um thows a left - swing and a miss!
Um blocks a head kick by Jackson.
Jackson throws a head kick that misses.
Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Um paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jackson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Um to score with a decent uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The crowd cheers as Um lands an impressive looking overhand right. Jackson doesn't seem phased though.
Jackson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jackson walks into a jab.
Um lands a two punch combo.
Jackson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Um.
Um lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Um swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jackson moves in looking to clinch but Um pushes him off.
Um smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Jackson is looking to clinch.
Jackson wants to slow Um down by chopping away at his legs.
Jackson defending well as Um loads up on a big left hand.
Nice jab there from Um.
Um's corner calls for a 1-2. Um obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Um throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Um changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jackson tries to avoid it but Um manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jackson to the ground. Jackson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jackson is looking to clinch but Um is avoiding it.
Jackson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Um lands with a nice body punch.
A decent looking cross lands there for Um.
Um wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Um moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Um darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Um perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Um looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jackson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Um slows the pace down in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Um sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Jackson defending well though.
Um controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Um throwing shots but Jackson is blocking nicely.
Um thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Um stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phal Um dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Um lands the left hand.
Um works the jab nicely.
Um lands a nice shot to the body.
Jackson slips under a jab from Um.
Um misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jackson.
Um looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jackson tries to clinch but Um is having none of it.
Um scores with a jab.

Um decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Um stalling.
Jackson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Um.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Um trying to control from Jackson's half guard. Jackson has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Um throws a big right hand that misses.
Um showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Jackson managing to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jackson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Um gets back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Um striking off his back.
Um wants to stand up but Jackson is controlling him.
Um keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Um is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Jackson is looking for a triangle here but Um uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Justin Jackson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jackson is trying to escape the position but Um is controlling the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Phal Um showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Um, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
